Grinding Knees

Hi Everyone,I'm going through the reversing out phase, having had my loading doses and one extra jab.

I've had all sorts of pains in my legs. Also some moments when I have to be very conscious about moving my legs. Currently my knees are really painful every time I need to stand up. The knee caps keep jamming and grinding. It's very disabling. Do I need to hassle my GP, or will it pass? I'm worried about permanent damage and if it's more a psoriatic rheumatism thing that needs its own treatment. It's so hard to get an appointment.

I just need to know what's normal in the recovery phase.

Thanks

Hi Oneash, i'm sorry to hear about the pain. In general, pain can be caused by B12D or reversing out.

However in my opinion (though others may share different experiences) 'grinding' kneecaps sounds more like a structural issue. It could very well be arthritis, so if i were you, i would ask my doctor about that, if you can manage to actually get an appointment.

That said, i had terrible knee issues when i was even just mildly hypothyroid - cracking, grinding, pain. I had to wear a knee brace, otherwise i could barely get up off a chair let alone walk or take stairs. I would ask for TSH, FT4, FT3. Test around 9am, fasting, only water beforehand. Are you in the UK? If so, you can also get private labs . Always worth periodically checking Vit D, folate, and iron/ferritin. thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...

Thank you it's good to know what tests to ask for.

Due to spinal issues I too have problem knees from time to time. Muscles in the lower leg attach above the knees and muscles above the knees attach below the knees. So when these muscles are tight then the bones are pulled closer together causing pain.

Gentle exercises to stretch/relax the muscles may help - yoga ? Also when sitting massage the kneecap with firm upward strokes into the quads before standing.

Also castor oil massaged into the area is anti-inflammatory - I do it at night and was surprised at the positive results !

Sorry - have not responded in connection with your B12 treatment. I would follow the advice above from jade_s and seek additional testing. 🌻

It all is relevant knowledge. Nerve control of muscle may have a factor. I keep telling my husband I'm just defragging!

Am sure you are right about nerve stimulation of muscles. My nerves are compressed at L5/S1 Surgery on the cards if I can raise the funds !

I agree with all of the above.I'm hoping for you b12 will really help.

I had painful knees . Crackling not reliable on weight bearing well before very low b12 found.

I had a knee xray .

All it said was wear and tear.

Overuse in job .

Without really 🤔 this has mostly gone amongst alot of other things .

Either b12

Or lack of over use .or a combination.

Definitely get checked out

Hi Oneash

Before I started B12 my knees were weak and crunchy. I couldn’t get up from bending down using my knees, I had to find something to hold onto so I could haul myself up. Very embarrassing on site once when there was nothing to hold on to so I just fell over 😳😳

After 9 months on B12 I can now get up using my knees but still crunchy! I don’t do it too much but I really enjoy it when my knees are on form!

Worth investigating as could be other things but that’s been my experience.

Hope you get happy knees soon!
