Pins and needles and pricking around knee replacements.

I have pernicious anaemia. For some time I have had pins and needles, tingling and pricking around my knee replacements which were done 8 years ago. I am wandering of this is due to the pernicious anaemia. Has anyone else experienced this.

B12 deficiency nerve damage usually manifests as peripheral neuropathy, affecting fingers and toes, then spreading up the limbs.

I would see a neurologist.

Thank you so much for your advise. I will act on that. I do also have pins and needles in my hands, so it could be connected.

I had a lot of pain from tendons being tight around a pin when my ankle was pinned - and that went with getting my B12 levels okay - though the pin was done at the same time as I was diagnosed with B12 deficiency.

That is interesting. My pernicious anaemia was diagnosed when I went to GP with pain in my knee and they did a blood test, then the antibodies were positive. I will see if it improves with b12. I have just been using an oral spray and am hoping I can start injections.

I had similar problems from foot surgery. It has improved but I fear some of the damage is now permanent.

Logically, if a nerve is injured anywhere it requires B12 to repair itself. If there is inadequate B12 this cannot occur. One of my sons developed foot drop from irritation of the nerve behind the fibular head. The other son developed irritation of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. At the time I suspect both were deficient in B12 which has only just been diagnosed and treated. Hopefully both will now improve.
