My elderly mother with many gastric issues tolerates liquid iron .Has it after her dinner .

Dose divided into two might help.

She also eats small portions of red meat regularly with steamed veg for vit C to help absorbtion.

Every food has to be soft .

I think it aids digestion if mashed ect .

Or even mullied if needs must.

Thanks for your reply I have just read your bio and see that you have like me PA and Tinnitus ..not atrophic gastritis unless not mentioned ..I hope you don’t get it as it’s not an easy condition to stabilise and many foods and supplements really upset the stomach .

I have PA and recurring iron deficiency anaemia. I don’t have a diagnosis of atrophic gastritis but I do have some of the symptoms. Diagnosed by a Haemotologist who says I have absorption problems, because of PA. I have never found any oral iron I can tolerate and I have literally tried every one! Spatone is the only one that I have had a little success with but it is too low dose to keep my iron at non deficient levels, I have an infusion regularly from the Haemotologist.

Just some alternatives that might be worth considering….not got atrophic gastritis, just lots of ailments, many not even now on bio…but taking ferrous fumarate and vit C would make me sick, and I’d struggle with low ferritin until tried blackpudding 3x a week, now also using a gentle BetterYou iron spray but not been tested.

Liquid iron did nothing to help my iron deficiency. I have atrophic gastritis, along with a lot of other chronic and acute issues. I was a non-meat eater for some years, but my iron levels never got and stayed better until I went on a heavy carnivore diet, beef, lamb, bison, along with a few iron infusions. Iron levels holding strong now for over two years!
