Male with Hypothyroidism and have been on 100mcg of Levothyroxine for 6 years. In April, I had some infection (unknown) and was not good for 3 months. Felt like long Covid. My HbA1c jumped to 44 and I was told I was prediabetic. Cut carbs and lactose. I don't drink or smoke anyway. Walked every day and managed to drop a stone in this time.
Most recent blood test shows HbA1c has dropped to 42 but pretty concerned with the low folate level.
Is this anaemia?
Will a B Complex vitamin help this?

Hi lostatsea2, welcome to the forum. You might get more replies/help if you post on the thyroid uk forum. Despite the name "anemia" in "pernicious anemia", this refers to an autoimmune condition that prevents oral absorption of B12.
To check for anemia, you would need a full red blood cell panel - these tests do not tell you if you have anemia
Your B12 levels look fine, though if you do have neurological and other symptoms of B12, this can be functional deficiency, and we would be happy to help - signs & symptoms of b12 deficiency b12deficiency.info/signs-an...
It's possible you have low folate due to low stomach acid as often seen in thyroid conditions or other causes of malabsorption (or low dietary intake)
One thing that does strike me , however, is your high iron saturation. Although just one point over range, I would ask your doctor to keep an eye on it - it could be trending in the direction of haemochromatosis nhs.uk/conditions/haemochro...
"The slight elevation in transferrin saturation may be a consequence of taking iron supplementation. Occasionally high iron levels in the blood can indicate haemochromatosis, and other causes of iron overload, though these are rare conditions and more of the tests of iron storage would usually be out of range too. Further testing would depend upon any symptoms you may have and your medical history – if you have concerns, I suggest you talk to your usual doctor."
I was taking liquid iron (Floradix) 2 weeks before this test was taken.
It would appear that you are seriously deficient in folate. You realy need to talk to doc about this as it can be as bad as B12 deficiency - probably need 5mg Folic acid tablets till back in range. I have cravings for broad beans and baked beans when my folate is low. Its wise to eat more of this lot.
Funny you should say that, GP prescribed 5mg today. My diet is good and I eat many of these items everyday. I don't have milk, tea, coffee or alcohol. Carbs are 30grams a day.
Looks like it may be malabsorption. They did a Tissue Transglutaminase test for coeliac disease back in April which came back as lgA level <1 IU/ml.
This all started with what I think was Covid back in April
