Hi All… I was diagnosed with a b12 deficiency (180) after a few months of hand/foot/leg/arm/face pains…and debilitating depression - that seems to be all over the place. I was told to do one shot and then supplements. I took matters into my own hands, and started getting weekly injections 3 weeks after the first injection, because I knew it helped with the depression. I know a lot of people say they get worse before better, but does that include new symptoms? I started get to very tight and shakey calves (notice the shake when on my toes…which is key to the type of exercise I do). I am terrified this will never go away. I am 7 weeks out from that first shot. Has anybody else experienced anything similar?!?
b12 leg shakes/tremor : Hi All… I was... - Pernicious Anaemi...
b12 leg shakes/tremor
Check ferritin/ iron levels are okay. Also vit D folate .
Often if an absorbtion problem other vitamins and minerals are affected.
I take a broad spectrum multivit.
Yes new symptoms can appear as your body 'recharges ' nerves.
Best to take it easy with exercising as very early days .
What country are you in?
Never heard of that treatment regime.
Also your level is clearer if the range is given and measurement used stated .
Folate is usually tested at the same time and if low treated now as b12 has been started.
Yes, I also had new symptoms appear. Lots of shakes and tremors but they passed once I progressed with my injections.
Same thing happened to me me. @Nackapan is right there may be something else going on too. Recently I have had to up my B12 to keep the leg shakes at bay. I got myself down to a 1 ml shot in the morning and 4 half shots throughout the day.
After reviewing my medical records I realized something. I don't methylate properly. That means my body also does not utilize the B12 and folate I do get efficiently in a way that helps my body fight oxidative stress and allows it to detox. B12 is part of the methylation process and not methylating properly carries the same symptoms as just having a B12 anemia. So I'm having to take a ton to get even a small end result because I'm not methylating. I recently just started taking Glutathione, L-Metathione (spelled this one wrong I'm sure of it)and NAC. All amino acids, I think, to help my body Methylate and detox. They seem to be helping as many symptoms including the wobbly legs and nerve pain are staying at bay longer. I still am taking a high dose of B12; I'm at 2 ML a day now alongside the other supplements, but I think I'm still healing. My body is also detoxing at a high rate now; I can tell as I keep getting this itchy rash I've had in the past when doing a detox for health.
My last doctor tested me for the MTHFR mutation which I do have on top of not absorbing B12. I don't know for sure if the above supplements are all I need as I am figuring this out on my own with the help of the internet until I can hopefully find a Doc more knowledgeable in Methylation. I hope this helps.
thank you @PaintLadie! I do not have the MTHFR mutation, but pretty much all my MTR/MTRR (sp?) genes are half mutated. I have an appointment with a functional medicine doctor soon, who is a methylation expert. My biggest frustration is that the neurologist (who doesn’t seem knowledgeable) to me this is a tenor totally unrelated to the B12 deficiency…even though it started right as all the other symptoms were escalating - me wanted to by it me on other meds. I just have a really hard time thinking a totally separate condition would randomly pop up right in the middle of being diagnosed with the B12 issue. Feel like I have to figure it all out myself. I did switch to the methyl b12 supplements this week (from cyano), and will get my fist methyl shot too (had been getting cyano). Hoping that helps
