Antibiotics
Hi Nettydoon
I hope you begin to feel better soon. I am no expert but water infections are not nice at all to put it mildly and in my experience punch way above their weight in suffering than the name suggests.
So I would definitely take the antibiotics and perhaps some pre and probiotics such as kefir or live yoghurt to help your tum recover from the antibiotics being indescribable in bug eradication.
If you are not taking blood thinners then cranberry juice is good for helping clear water infections too.
You can always increase your B12 intake for a while as any excess will be passed out in your pee.
Big hug and drink plenty of water! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
What and where do I buy these please.
I buy kefir from my local Morrisons, Tesco or Sainsbury’s- it contains pre and probiotics. It’s usually in the yoghurt section. Live yoghurts say “live” on them. Cranberry juice is usually in the drinks section with the apple and orange juice. All the best 😂😂😂
NICE says “Prescribe nitrofurantoin with caution in people with:
Anaemia, diabetes mellitus, electrolyte imbalance, debilitating conditions, and vitamin B or folate deficiency.” So I suggest you ask your doctor again about this. Best wishes
Haveyougotthelinktothis please?
Yes it’s NICE CKS Nitrofurantoin and scroll down - it’s under prescribe with caution
Best wishes
It was a course of nitrofuratoin that made me temporarily lose use of my legs - it should be prescribed carefully if at all if you have PA. There are other antibiotics that will do the job without the danger.
If you mean Nitrofurantoin the NHS does not recommend that you take it if you have a B deficiency. We didn’t realise that my husband was B12 deficient when he was prescribed Macrobid ( brand name) for a UTI. It seemed to wipe out his stomach acid. In subsequent digging I found studies which didn’t recommend prescribing for the over70s. I would check again with your GP.
Quite shocked really. I specifically expressed my concern about which antibiotic I would be given, and that I am over seventy. Two lovely Nurse Practitioners one who said she thought treating the infection was the most important thing.I am going to contact them to ask if they will read the 'guidelines', and, most importantly, listen to their patients who are desperately trying to get them to understand the awful impact P. A. and B12d have on those who suffer from it.
I will be 'NICE' tho.
Do you, by any chance have references to the information you found about prescribing to over seventies?
Hi Nettydoon
All good and knowledgeable advice so definitely check with your GP. Your water infection definitely needs treating but perhaps with an antibiotic that does not make your B12 deficiency worse.
Best of luck 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Thank you all for sharing your advice and e Lyon this antibiotic. 😁
So sorry. I have misspelled the antibiotics name. Was being so careful too.The name is NITROFURANTOIN.
Rang GP surgery. Said its on my notes that this antibiotic should be OK for me to take. If I'm not feeling good tomorrow, ring up to speak to a doctor.
😱
That’s really not good enough. It’s bad enough suffering from a UTI! They seem quite prepared to risk your health.
Well Nettydoon
Your family are wrong - you sound very switched on and ahead of the curve regards your health. Well done you! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I reacted so badly to this a year or so ago, before i was diagnosed with B12 def - had to stop the course as i felt i was going to die, and even warned poor hubbie to be on red alert to call 999..! I can laugh now but it wasn't fun at the time, and it's on my medical notes as an adverse reaction. Interestingly i was prescribed it many years ago without problems, so i probably had enough B12 to cope.
