Hi everyone... feeling pretty dreadful right now... I was in theatre yesterday due to an infected sebaceous cyst on my back that just appeared overnight.
In the last few days I had erythromycin for 3 days which severely upset my stomach followed by 6 days of clarithromycin...neither helped.
Now I'm on 5 days of ciprofloxacin, metronidazole and codeine.
I'm injecting pascoe hydroxocobalamin daily.
Any advice ?

Personal experience suggests that Erythromycin can be 'quite unpleasant'. I took some for a fairly minor problem and ended up feeling grim for months. I won't be having that again! Unfortunately, it's cheap, so it's probably a 'first choice' antibiotic.
Keep on with the B12 and stay in touch with the site.
Sorry to hear you are feeling so poorly Lincsangel1, any antibiotic seems to knock us sideways, so I think you might be in for a few weeks yet and beyond until your system deals with the aftermath. Lots of advice here, and I have read recently about the benefits of Kefir that help re-eastablish the gut biome. Might be worth looking into. You can add it to cereal or other milky drink. Only downside is it is dairy, and not suitable for all. (I can't take it but have heard good reports). Wishing you well in your recovery.
I'd be careful with the ciprofloxacin, it's a very powerful drug and can have some bad side effects. I don't want to be alarmist but I suggest you look up the side effects, in the US it's a black box drug and there are lawsuits ongoing about the damage some have suffered.
It is believed that my deficiency may have been caused by what you experienced but, over 10 years.
Whether your antibiotic exposure would trigger issues, I’m uncertain.
Metronidazole is typically used to clear out suspected C Diff but also certain pathogens.
It clears everything and you must take probiotics. Gastroenterologists recommend Symprove. Pricey at about £65/month and it can take up to 3 years before your biome fully repairs. That’s from experience.
Try Holland and Barrett for capsules of 7 probiotics- the secret is - you must take these first thing in the morning before drinking or eating anything and with a glass of water then wait 30 mins before drinking or eating.
I hope that helps. A gastroenterologist would be expected to steer you in the direction, unless there is some other medical situation that warrants further investigation.
