Golfer's vasculitis, or exercise induced vasculities, is a rash around the ankles and lower legs that usually appears after prolonged exercise in hot weather (for example playing golf). It is not dangerous or very serious, but it is very annoying!
It is more common in older people, supposed to be because blood vessels aren't as good as pumping the blood back up the legs or something like that. I started getting it in my late twenties
I was curious if anyone else on here has experienced this? It looks to me like since I am on B12 injections I don't get it as often and it is less severe, but I can't find anything about this on the internet, it is always just dismissed as a very minor condition and attributed to old age.

I have read that there can be a connection between vasculitis and B12 deficiency !
A friend has had it confirmed by a positive ANCA test. I suffer with Raynaurds, Neuropathy and at present being screened for vasculitis and waiting the results.
It is rewarding to hear the condition is improving without having to take steroids. You could try taking a collogen and a Vit C supplement to see if it helps.
I just came across this which maybe of interest..........
B12 deficiency can cause elevated homocysteine which has been associated with cardiovascular health problems and endothelial dysfunction. Perhaps that's the connection?
I got it on Saturday when I was doing donkey rides at a show so walked umpteen miles in the heat, which was extreme for a couple of hours.
I knew it was basically superficial and was the result of tiny sub surface burst blood vessels, but I had no idea otherwise so am amazed my the coincidence of your post!! Wow! Thank you. (It's only chance I found it too because it didn't show up in my dratted feed).
I used to get lots of burst blood vessels in my fingers, hands and even wrist, which are very painful and not insignificant because sometimes they were quite big veins that ruptured. A superb cardiologist told me it was a sign of low vitamin C.
(I struggle with severe malabsorption of just about all vitamins and minerals).
Since increasing my vitamin C it's hardly happened again and my heart arrhythmia and function has improved.
However I broke a blood vessel in a finger a few weeks ago, having done a two-day show, and now have this, so it shows that I'm low again and walking obviously uses up nutrients from your system - some of why it's so good for you because it improves your metabolism (but means you need extra nutrients to cope with it!).
Slightly aside, my left leg was more affected than my right, and usually is, and my left arm swells more than my right one too. I'll probably give my cardiology team a ring and see if there's anything they can suggest.
What a useful post, thank you! I will increase my vitamin C again and see if that helps to control it.

Ouch Denise that looks so annoying does it itch? Funny because I was lifting something in the garden, just a few plastic tiles and I felt this sudden pain in my middle finger ,I thought something had bitten me to be honest, anyway within what felt like seconds my finger started to turn all black on the inside as I looked at my palm. I’m wonderin* now was this a burst blood vessel as I seem to get things like this a lot and it’s really painful for me I don’t tolerate pain well.I’ve no doubt that my vit c is low as I’m scared to supplement that one because I have high ferritin,no reasons found. I’m thinking now I’ll look into viatamin c now as I can’t even open a jar lid as I get that pop then pain and bruising in my fingers,,amazing the stuff we pass on here isn’t it thank you for that..xx
good morning yes I also have this and since getting my new doggy and exercising more it has definitely gotten worse around my left ankle,it was worrying* me a bit to be honest but I feel better now since your post,I don’t think my b12 has influenced it any as I inject regular but it hasn’t stopped it from looking worse prob as you suggest due to the increase in exercise, can you believe I’m doing 30km a week now with my little friend lol I do have awful sciatica and nerve pain down my left leg from an old injury so I may have to scale back a bit or just rest more between walkies lol..thank you for your post very enlightening. X
Yes, WhyAmISoTired ! Here's an old photo. Well it was a long time back and never knew what it was. I have a feeling that this was when struggling with a phased return to work.
So thanks for that. Another weird inexplicable link to B12 deficiency.
Frequent B12 injections for me gradually got rid of many of these random nuisances, and controlled the other more frequent symptoms over time, leaving me with a stubborn couple as reminders that this is all about management, not cure !
Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences! to summarize what everyone said, it may be linked to B12 deficiency/elevated homocysteine, or it may be low vitamin C, or something else entirely
