So I was diagnosed with PA about 8 years ago with some atrophic gastritis.
I’ve been SI once a week or so for years.
I’ve now been told I have osteoarthritis which my Dr thinks is connected but I can’t see anywhere that it’s connected?
I’m on praglaban for nerve damage which I now know reduces serum b12 so will up the SI
I know nsaid are best for osteoarthritis but not best for PA/atrophic gastritis so I’m looking for a long term pain management option . But not steroids. However the pain does come and go which is good and exercise is a big part of my life plus I try to ear healthy .
I guess what I would like to know is if anyone else has these issues and what they have found is the best course of action.
Thanks soo much x

If you were adequately supplementing/injecting B12 though, then its less likely the Osteoporosis would develop as a result of that mechanism. In terms of nutrition I would be looking particularly closely at Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin K (K2), Vitamin D.
Resistance exercise is critical to bone health ( walking would not be sufficient) - none of the above nutrients will prevent osteoporosis without resistance training or similar weight bearing exercise/movement. Bones strengthen in response to a load and weaken without it, so this stimulus is required for strong/healthy bones.
hi! I don’t really have much help sorry. But I do have osteoarthritis after a long period of B12 deficiency and chronic fatigue. I’m 41 and have had my first knee replacement in Jan and going to have another done. The surgeons weren’t very open to the CFS or B12 being linked with my knees and said it was more genes and bad luck. However, I’ve started looking in to the research of how gut microbiome can be a factor in osteoarthritis. Prof Tonia Vincent mentioned it on a Physio Matters podcast and it got me thinking! I found nothing really helped with the pain after a while - NSAIDS, icing and cold water swimming did for a little. HA injections didn’t do anything. So I went down the surgery route. Good look with yours and would be interested if you found the research on B12 / osteoarthritis links.
hi I’m so sorry to hear your suffering like this and so young ! What are HA injections ?
My Dr is actually Portugese and it’s he who is convinced it’s linked. He believes to do with my gut. I do take kefir which helps and I’ve started intermittent fasting . I’ve not looked into any possibility of a link yet but someone did reply and put a link to an article which said their is a connection
Hi, my approach is hard at first but relatively easy now. I gave up all dairy, gluten, alcohol ( have the occasional glass of wine if celebrating something), processed foods, sugar etc to reduce the inflammation that causes the pain in your joints. NSAIDs will only make the problem worse in the long run. We have to be proactive with our health and read, read, read. My B12 problem has only confirmed this. Best wishes
hi Baklava22 thanks for your reply. Your right that’s a difficult approach ! Some of it I do but I just tend to have flare ups rather than constant pain so I shall see how I go.
