excema or psoriasis and PA

Hi All.

Is there a link between PA and excema or psoriasis? I seem to have developed this (not sure which) and it’s completely out of the blue.

I’m not sure what anti inflammatory I can take or best way to treat given my PA is probably due to atrophic gastritis and auto immune.

Any advice welcome 🙏

I think there is a link .I have eczema and a very dry itchy scalp.

This is new since b12 injections started.

You just need to use hair treatments.

Eczema lotions ect and eat good fats .

Thanks.. I’ve been SI for 7 years so I’m not sure if it’s down to the B12… but I shall try your suggestions

Hi, What hair treatment do you use? What fats do you mostly use? Omega 3 (so salmon, mackerel and .)…avocados ? Olive oil? All my body feels ‘rough’ to the touch yet I always had a very smooth flawless skin, even as a teenager. The situation is getting worse… I also itch a lot… body, head. Not sure how to cope better. I use lots of moisturiser on my skin and a good Aveda shampoo and conditioner for my hair,..but doesn’t help that much. I eat salmon, walnuts, avocados and plenty of fresh green vegetables, fruits.. chicken breast (skin removed). Some beef pork. Plenty of salads. So difficult…

Hi, I take krill oil , moisturise etc but just realised i have changed my make of b12 due to supply issues and I wonder if that’s got anything to do with it … feels like a constant battle with one thing or another !

Definitely. I think for me it's s side effects of having to inject b12 .

As on no medications

Yes I do the same.Have alot of avocados and good food.

Not as keen on fish.

But have omega 3 in soreads ect

Lots of homegrown veg.

My skin was very good even as a teenager.

I alternate shampoos .

Use anti itch ones.

Put olive oil or coconut oil on my Scalp overnight at times and shampoo in the morning.

That helps.

Tried avocade oil, almond , jojoba ect

A little hair oil.

Or camomile essential oil

I also use Nizarol or Alphosyl just to make sure.

T -gel

Anything to try and stop scratching.

Ecrin

Ginger

T tree

Sulphate free shampoo

Scalp shampoo

Aveena oat

Head and shoulders for extra dry scalp

Nothing really to be seen .

No flakes or dandruff.

I assume nerves on my Scalp as feel small bumps.

For me associated with headaches/ migraine ( also new ) from the start but less severe mostly.

I try and wash my hair less.

Was washing daily to calm Scalp.

Vaseline I put on very dry patches on my body.

Eczema creams.

I've spent alot of money trying things but alternating seems to stop it getting worse.

Advised to use one thing for 4 or five washes to trial.

Have done this for over two yesrs .

Was prescribed

Betacap treatment.

But when I saw a dermatitis for a dry patch in ear that didn't heal .

( was okay just needed an antibiotic cream)

I asked about my Scalp.

She said to try betacap with caution

Put me off ever trying it .

Also said nog yk ovef oil ax can block Pores.

Couldnt see anything !

I have worse things to deal with .

But itching csn make you irritable can't it.

Hi, I have the same problem. It strted on my face as an itchy dermatitis then after starting b12 ithe itch has gone but I have this thick skin that unless I administer a heavy oily cream at night it is back the next day. It seems to occur rapidly aaahh! Not sure who to see about it.

Yrs when i asked a doctor about it they unsure. Encouraged ne to use anti fungi applications to rule that out.

I did .

I didn't think it was that.

However to my suprise got oral thrush for the first time and then again.

Triggered by dental work .

So perhsos ruling out a mild fungal condition not a bad idea .

It’s a difficult situation. Perhaps seeing a dermatologist might be helpful?

I wonder if you might be struggling to clear histamine which might not be helping itching and skin (although could also be poor liver/gallbladder function generally). Several of the foods that you mention are high histamine or histamine-liberating - salmon, walnuts, avocado.... You could maybe trial a low-histamine diet. Some years ago I started to react to ingredients in skin products that I'd used for ages with no issues, and ended up ditching as many chemicals as possible (skin/teeth/food/cleaning and laundry). Now I only use a basic olive oil soap bar and wash skin and hair with it, and having changed diet and supplemented deficiencies skin, hair, nails all far better. Still have to keep an eye on histamine overload though. I use coconut oil on skin if I get a dry patch once in a while, although I know it doesn't suit everyone. Best wishes

Hi, thank you for your input. The problem is I need to eat omega 3 rich foodstuffs. I have severe osteoporosis and RA, Sjogren’s, have hypothyroidism, B12 deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia, absorption problems and more. So removing certain types of nutrients from my diet will cause other problems. Having a complex health issue is never easy to deal with. I would end up eating very little food. Best wishes to you.

Hi, yes it is never easy. I have or had some of those and a few of my own, but gluten and dairy were playing a big part and I use free amino acids to help with the things that I had to cut temporarily. You do of course only cut the minimum that you need to and for the least time possible, but it can be very helpful for diagnosis. I am undoubtedly better overall for the changes. I am sure that there wil be lower-histamine omega 3 foods, and very fresh fish should be ok for most histaminedoctor.com/fish-oi... . It may not be a problem for you, but is common with autoimmunes. Best wishes

Thank you for the link. Will have a read. Not easy getting fresh fish if one doesn’t live close to the sea…. I am lactose intolerant so do not use cow’s milk but again a nut milk, Almond milk.

Very true - one practitioner that I follow moved to the sea for that reason! But I've found that flash frozen - on the boat- is fine for me if I don't have it too often or with other higher histamine things. Cooking fresh, not eating leftovers, freezing promptly etc all reduces risk of histamine content increasing. Most nuts aren't too bad, just walnuts can be a problem for some, so I eat a few daily, just not too many and not with other higher histamine things. It is all about the load and magnesium is useful to help processing. Plenty of other things you can do to help if it turns out to be an issue for you. Almonds should be ok ( lowhistamineeats.com/are-al... ) it is the additives in the milks that may not be so good, or lectins, oxalates etc. I soak mine and try not to overdo it with intake. I used to make a coconut milk but don't need milk for anything anymore so stopped. Loads of histamine info sites online, but not easy to get tested even for low DAO (can be deficiency causing inability to process histamine, but that is only one possible cause).

Thank you. Will look into this. It’s certainly an ever growing challenge.

Psoriasis is definitely an autoimmune condition. Atopic eczema is also . Autoimmune conditions seldom come alone .

I have Eczema and psoriasis, which developed in my 30s, before the P.A. diagnosis, although there is no doubt that I had undiagnosed P.A. at the time. My scalp drives me absolutely batty, as does psoriasis in my ears. I've tried several shampoos, but they either dry it out and make it worse, or make no difference.

I have pernicious anaemia and also eczema on my neck and scalp psoriasis. I don’t tolerate medication very well because of a very low immune system.

I therefore use E45 on my eczema and Betacap for my psoriasis.

I hope this helps. Take care x

Think carefully before using Head and Shoulders, a vet told me that once used you can't stop using it or dandruff returns - though since you don't have that perhaps it doesn't apply?

I was diagnosed with B12 deficiency about 2 years ago. A year or two before that I was having a lot of trouble with a rash. I was putting skin softener on it, and over-the-counter hydrocortisone, but those things didn't help. I had had something similar in 2004 or so and saw a doctor, who wrote a prescription. The pharmacy didn't have the size of tube of cream the doctor ordered and gave me a bigger tube, which I used as needed until it was gone, so when I had trouble with the rash more recently I made an appointment with a dermatologist, who diagnosed psoriasis. She wrote a prescription for Betamethasone DP AUG 0.05%. Two or three applications is all it took, and I have nearly the entire tube left. Obviously my problems were minor compared to some of the things described in this thread, but I made no progress until I got the prescriptions.
