Before I had the diagnosis of P.A.( Positive IFAB test) and before I got sufficient B12 injections , I used to randomly get what I called “ funny turns” when my heart would race like mad for a minute or two I would feel faint and once or twice did . Doctor dismissed it and said there was nothing wrong at all, and I should just ignore them .

Since getting sufficient B12 injections (through self-injecting) , several years ago , i now never have those palpitations . ………. Are you getting sufficient B12 injections ?

Thanks wedgewood. I know what I need to do now. Increase the B 12 injections. I kind of thought that it would be but wasn't quite sure . Be blessed Wedgewood!!

I absolutely second wedgewood's reply! I had palpitations, shortness of breath and a high resting heart rate (105 bpm) before I got injections. My heart would just pound so hard at night. So badly I almost went to the ER because I wasn't sure it was related to the b12 deficiency, but I never went and just kept doing the injections.

After doing injections every day or every other day for 1.5 years, the symptoms completely resolved. I mean they gradually got better, but were completely gone after 1.5 years.

What was your b12 level before any injections?

Not that this matters, i'm just curious.

But really, like wedgewood states, you should be doing injections frequently. Docs will tell you otherwise, so most of us here get our own supplies and self inject.

Thank you, B12 life, for also responding. Just having a place like this to just let you know these are symptoms of B12 calms the mind. Be blessed b12d life

Hi 25092

My experience is similar to B12Life and Wedgewood. Before B12 I could hear and feel my heart pounding and racing for no obvious reason.

Been on B12 for 6 months now and I inject every day. I can no longer hear or feel my heart. It is happier and so am I !! 😁

I hope you manage to calm yours down too. It’s not a nice experience. 🤗🤗🤗🤗

Hello, Yes, palpitations, thumping heart for hours, many misbeats and high blood pressure- doctors told me to ignore it. One month of self injecting still palpitations but my pulse ( so I assume blood pressure) is much lower. Has to be the every day injections. I hope to improve.

My sympathy for you. Yes I did. Low Iron caused me so much anguish and debilitations. It's actually very frightening . My heart would start to palpitat and it lasted sometimes for hours . Anytime any place.. No Dr ever found the problem. And knowingly that I was anemic. Once I started taking Iron and B12 thankfully it was history. Best wishes.

Heart Palps can be caused by borderline low or low iron. I recently had severe heart palpitations that caused dizziness. Read my post on Iron Deficiency Without Anemia (IDWA). Iron malabsorption is definitely something those with PA/AMAG should keep an eye on and Ferritin is not really a valid marker for those with Chronic Gastritis.

Best wishes

You're very smart. Rexz, I percent transferrin saturation was one low off the chart. Mine was 19 and the chart was ranging from 20 to 50 normal range but I take iron every day. 595 for the last at least 7 months. Do you have any other suggestions that would bring that iron up? I am trying the organ meats in pill form just started that a couple of days ago. Hoping that brings it up, but thank you so much! Best!

Not so smart but rather just trying to survive. : )

Usually iron deficiency in those with autoimmune Gastritis/PA is caused by low/no gastric acid which is also produced by the very Parietal Cells that produce Intrinsic Factor. If this is the case then your digestive system is not able to absorb ingested iron. The only treatments I know of is to periodically monitor your serum iron levels and top off your iron with iron infusion IVs. I've had to have seven of these this year to get mine from 10 ng/mL up to above 100 ng/mL.

Talk to your doctor and show him/her that IDWA report.

Is just another little speedbump in the AIG journey.

Hope this helps. Rexz

My palpitations were awful before I started jabs! My heart would regularly reach 170 at rest. I ended up in A&E on a few occasions. It turned out that I had an electrical problem with my heart, but once I started jabs, it got much better. My heart rate never went above about 140 and thats during exercise. Resting went from 90 to 69. Still get episodes of missed beats and thumping , but its much better. It tends to only get naughty if I'm ill, tired or stressed. Cardiology said just watch and wait - if it gets worse again I can have a procedure to burn off the bad nerve pathway.

My symptoms started with palpitations. Mine came in the form of skipped heart beats that seemed to last way too long, mostly right before falling asleep. That progressed into getting a kind of electric shocks, also while in the twilight zone of drifting away to sleep. I became scared to fall asleep at a certain point! My health was deteriorating in other ways too. A friend asked me if I was taking B12 as at the time I was adhering to a plant based diet and I realized had been forgetting to take them. I took them and that night, in stead of palpitations and "electric shocks", I had a regular hypnic jerk. The low dose oral supplements led to high dose oral B12 and ultimately to the weekly 1000 mcg shots I take now. Also I changed to a carnivore diet about two years after discovering the issues with B12.

Thankfully these terrifying palpitations have subsided, but if I wait too long with my shot, sensations resembling them start occurring.

Oh my, HappyMonk, My heart feels for you because I remember having something like an electrical current going through my body when I was first diagnosed and yes It happens right before you fall off to sleep. Such a scary feeling. I didn't know what was going on with me. I explained this to so many doctors and not one knew what I was going through until one decided to check my intrinsic factor which was positive and they started me on the B12 injections. Like I said, I'm not where I want to be. ( I want to be free of this sickness) but I thank God I'm nowhere near the way I was. A few palpitations now here and there is no way like those electrical currents I used to get. I know that was just God. HappyMonk we are going to get better and better! Best!

Thank you for your kind words. I am also extremely happy and relieved to have left that terrifying ordeal behind me. It's also a presentation that seems to be underreported or under aknowledged. Palpitations are often mentioned and tingling, but not these zaps and neurological symptoms as I described. I ended up in MS territory in my search of answers on the internet and learnt a lot about nerves, myelin sheath and the interplay between blood circulation and nervous system. But also about the various forms of anemia, malformation of red blood cells in relation to B12 deficiency and the complex balance of various vitamins and mineral to maintain a healthy consistency of blood make-up.

On that note I have had some success in managing palpitations with multiple approaches: electrolytes, magnesium in particular but also salt. Taking some extra iron. And practices to do with activating the parasympathetic nervous system like cold exposure, meditation and more recently Castor oil packs. That last one is particularly helpful in terms of soothing. It's also said to help clear the liver and stimulate blood circulation, lowering blood pressure.

All the best!

Thank you so much for those golden nuggets of information. You know what you're talking about that's for sure. I have incorporated some of the things that you speak of, daily vitamins magnesium, potassium, iron, omega castor oil rubs on stomach and believe it or not, my son introduced me to the health benefits of the sauna and then doing cold shock therapy afterwards and I think that's helping quite a bit. I know it sounds weird but my blood work showed some improvement in some areas. Anyway, I appreciate your advice so much Happy Monk. Be blessed!

I do, but it was discovered that mine are from low ferritin/iron, not from my PA.
