Just curious because I have had no answers from doctors!
Basically the reason I got diagnosed with my b12/iron/folate deficiency was because I kept feeling heart “flutters” or palpitations everyday sometimes even felt them in my throat
my ECG came back normal but my heart rate was a little fast (I was so nervous) Then I had a full blood count which revealed I had low b12, iron deficiency and really low folate levels.
Are heart palpitations linked to any of this? I just still have no answers and I still get them sometimes (not as bad) and I try not too worry so much about them now. Hope someone out there had some answers feel like no one understands how scary these things feel!

Yes , I used to have those palpitations . They did not last long , but as you say , they were scary .For me , I believe that they were the first sign of PA. I did go to doctors , but was just told that they were harmless and I should ignore them . I eventually had other symptoms - like exhaustion , dizziness , numb feet , anxiety and confusion . It was suggested that I was imagining these symptoms , ( blood test revealed low B12( 150) Just sent on my way . I then consulted a private doctor who found that I had PA. I then did get 5 loading doses from my previously sceptical GP , and 1 injection every 3 months which was insufficient to keep symptoms away—- . Refusal to increase injections ( toxicity of B12 !) Luckily found PAS and this forum . Now self -inject weekly - no more palpitations etc -just left with madly burning feet and inclination to get tired easily . PA has so very many symptoms . They vary in individuals, and varying amounts of treatment are needed . Much more research is also needed . . Sorry I got carried away ! ..I really should have just answered your question !
.Not all P.A. sufferers get palpitations , but I have seen others mention it on this forum .
I hope that you are getting sufficient injections of B12. . If so , I’m sure that the palpitations will gradually fade away . Best wishes .
I also get those, not a nice feeling, but probably mine are way weaker than yours, because I never worried about them. Don't get them too often, and last only some minutes.
Yes, definitely. Everyone is different but all those deficiencies can cause it in some individuals.
I've had a couple of heart ops for arrhythmia which fixed a specific problem but nothing stopped my heart doing mad things until I had enough B12 and supporting supplements.
For 20 years I would get told it was "all in my mind" if I had a standard ECG but then if I got wired up to machines in hospital I had a struggle to escape because it would run irregular traces over prolonged periods of time. Basically just what it felt like, but hey - who was I to say? I wasn't an expert, it was just my body!!! Grrrrr! 😁
Now I'm fine and completely forget about it when I'm OK.
However I know if I've got the balance of things wrong if it won't run properly. Then it crashes, bangs, flutters, and all manner of nonsense and usually if I'm bad everything swells up - my feet and wrists especially - and it makes me cough. I then have to give up and go to sleep, making sure I have taken all the supplements I need.
Mine's been bad for over 30 years and I've got a bit blasé about it! I'm still alive!
Make sure you have got your levels of everything up to what your body needs and after that go and sleep if it's still not settled.
A broad spectrum multivitamin and mineral supplement is a good place to start plus your extra folate and iron. I suggest that you get your potassium and magnesium levels checked too and always make sure you have plenty of these from your diet. You can Google them to see what dietary sources you might like.
Calcium is less likely to be a problem but they might check this too - to make sure it isn't upsetting the balance of the other things.
The three - potassium, magnesium and calcium - together play an important role in heart rate regulation.
Don't worry - it is fixable! Good luck with getting the right balance of everything.
They’re pretty awful and I had them too, the B12 helps, but also supplementing with good quality Magnesium supplements helped me more. I use this one amazon.co.uk/dp/B07B7M8KK3/...
I had really bad palpitations, strong pulsing I could feel in my chest or my stomach, they were regular not skipped beats and I also had a faster heart rate than normal. This lasted 24 hours round the clock with heart rate being sometimes faster sometimes less so.
It was only less when I was resting but sometimes not even then and I could barely sleep at night. It was like this for several months, went to a cardiologist all came back normal but he did note the higher resting heart rate. He eventually found I had low B12 and iron, and later on low folate too.
The fast palpitating heart rate resolved for me a couple of days after my 6th loading B12 shot. Then it came back 3 weeks later so I had another 10 loading shots after which it went away and hasn't been back since. I am on monthly B12 injections so I don't know if it will come back if I leave it longer than that.
Oh no sorry to hear that! Sounds horrible as I am also aware of my heart racing a lot Hopefully mine go like yours... i’m on my 4th shot (so far much less noticeable palpitations) hope they go I still panic when I feel them
Yes. Fast heart rate as far back as I can remember. So fast it hurt. Always bad when waking in the morning. As strong symptoms of deficiency crept in, the palpitations and flutters were very bad. I was in heart medication and referred for more testing. It resolved with B12! If I get low or get really nervous, I can have mild flutters but it is very rare now.
Yes you get them with all 3 of those if low. Hopefully will go if you’re getting treatment and once levels are raised. They’re not harmful and will go away with B12, Iron and Folate treatment.
I've had PVC heart beats (premature ventricular contractions), especially when going to bed at night. It helped to put my hand on my heart and focus on breathing, relaxing. PA and heart atrial fibrillations (AFIB) run in my family. Magnesium supplements in the evening, stress management, good sleep, and regular B12 injections have helped a lot. It does help to also try wearing a heart monitor for a day or two, so the doctors can see what's going on. Hope you feel better soon!
