B12 connection ear issues?

Hi just wondering if b12 is in anyway connected to having eustacian tube disfunction? or if anyone with b12 also suffers with ear issues?

Many report ear issues myself included with tinnitus being a problem for many. Some have reported their tinnitus to have improved since being on B12 where as mine is persistant. Some have complained of having a fullness in the ear as if it is clogged. Google it to see what you can find with regard to B12 deficeincy and ear problems.

I can assure you your not alone with this issue. 📣 👂

I also have the same ear issues but never made the connection to B12 deficiency so thanks for your post Hollygray

I have noticed that the lack of B12 has caused a lot of developmental issues in children which lead to problems like hearing loss or not enough enamel on the bones or mental disorder. And depending on the age that you get diagnosed with having a B12 disorder, the easier or the harder it is to manage the symptoms going forward. So it is very likely that the compounding issues you are having with your body correlate directly be related to not having enough vitamin b12 or being able to make the vitamin b12 in your body or absorb it correctly.

Yes.

I always have.

But did not know there was a definite connection until I read a Q &A on it from Dr. Andrew Weil. I should try to find it, and not misquote him.

Can not find it. Drat. It was something along the lines of an important nerve in the inner ear causing various issues.

Yes, both. I think the tinnitus I also experience is a recognised PA symptom. Hard to know if there's a causal link, though.

hi .. yes I 100% have suffered this .. was diagnosed as having Eustational tube dysfunction by doctor but told by ENT specialist that I did not agree and said I didn’t have Eustational tube dysfunction.. however I’ve been self injecting eod for 5 months now and as soon as I try to wean down injections I feel this comes straight back .. along with itchy burning feet

Yes. It started 3 years ago and I attributed it to swimmers ear as I was swimming once a day. I found I could mitigate it with hydrogen peroxide drops 10 min each ear. Then the temperature regulation got so severe that I could not swim as I would experience hypothermia. What ever was going on with my ears would happen along with burning itching feet which I could mitigate with Vaseline intensive care. I would also at the same time experience teeth/jaw pain not associated with dentistry. That I mitigated with massaging my gums.

It is close to being a memory with my current self treatment.

.50 mg SC Hydroxocabalamin and 5 mg SL methylcobalamin/adenasolcobalamin three times a day and a B-complex. I also take Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate .25 mg liquid in water twice a day.

For years before my diagnosis I had a ache deep in my right ear. Neither my doctor nor an ENT specialist could find a reason for the pain. The pain went away after I started B12 shots. This is just one physical issue I had that mysteriously disappeared after treatment with B12.

Yes, the ringing in my ears is annoying. Sometimes quieter than other times but still present.

Hollygray, Glad you brought this up. I do have recent (within the last year) eustachian tube issues. I've never had them before so I do not think this is caused by allergies. I've this feeling of fullness, no pain, not tinnitus. Just full in one ear and can't hear as well in that ear. I am just heading down my diagnostic journey with this one. I have searched for any connection between Eustachian Tube Dysfunction and Pernicious Anemia and have found nothing direct. However, I did find a condition called Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease (AIED). Where your immune system is attaching the inner ear tissues. There may be a loose connection here since it is known that those with one autoimmune disease usually have 2 or 3. I happen to have already been diagnosed with PA and Hash, and hopefully this Eustachian Tube issue is not the third. The documentation says it can start in one ear and then eventually move to both ears and may eventually result in deafness. So I am not treating this lightly and trying to pursue a proper diagnosis. This is a rare condition so our conditions may not be this. Here are a few sites for information.

enthealth.org/conditions/au...

autoimmuneregistry.org/auto...

There are no tests for AIED other than the one below which seems to not be that accurate.

OtoBlot test for Autoimmune Inner Ear Disease (AIED)

Hope this is helpful, Rexz

Yes I'm confused by a couple of thing. I do have b12 deficiency and also tinnitis. I also had covid injections that seem to coincide with both. I do believe b12 can cause tinnitus but recently saw more people and studies being done connecting covid injections and tinnitis. So if anyone wants hasbfurther input would appreciate. Should be thinking of another booster but nervous about it.

Hi,

My tinnitus improved greatly after starting B12 treatment.

Some forum members have reported hearing loss improved after starting treatment.

I also had severe sensitivity to certain sounds, pitches and volume and used to think I was developing an ear infection as my ears were often sore but I now think the nerves in my ears had been damaged in some way making them less able to cope with loud noises and some pitches.

This post feels really timely. I've recently started having more persistent issues with my right ear, sounding and feeling full, but going to get checked and there is "no visible issue."

I started to notice about 5-7 months ago that sometimes after showering it would seem like a bit of water would get stuck in my right ear. This spring it's worse. I've had 2 bouts already. The first was 2-3 weeks of fullness and strange sounds, then it went away and I think when I had some cow cheese (which I normally avoid as it doesn't agree with my guts), I noticed the fullness and strange sounds coming back. It's now 2-3 days in and the fullness and sounds are still there - I have a doctor appointment this week to have it checked, I made the appoinment during my first spring bout, as my PCP takes about a month to get it. Funnily enough, in that months time, the last round resolved and is now back again. Then I'm scheduled to see an ENT in mid may - ironically I had made that appointment several months ago for possible vocal chord dysfunction as I struggle greatly with hoarseness and throat infections, which seemingly get a lot worse if I'm not getting enough B12.

I have had recurrent sinus infections, and the right sinus is much more apt to swell shut when I eat foods that don't agree with me (I have pretty intense histamine intolerance), but now I fear my right ear is going down the same path... Thanks for posting Hollygray!

Yes,I have PA and tinnitus & vertigo. I am prone to ear infections and pain too. B12 injections have helped ease a lot of it.

When my daughter was born they tested her hearing. She had super sonic extreme hearing. The doctor said it was caused by my PA/b12 deficiency. She still has extreme hearing as a young adult. Loud sounds hurt her ears and she can hear things most can not. She may also have PA but refuses to be tested. She wont do shots so I try to give her oral B12.

Hi Holly,

I have Eustachian tube dysfunction. It actually wakes me up out of sound sleep occasionally. I think it is nerve related and thus B12 deficiency likely could be the cause, or one possible cause.

Yes, I have ear issues. I was just in the ER with a swollen face as my tubes were blocked. I had terrible vertigo for decades. Haven't had it since on injections, but still get other ear issues and dizziness. Good luck

I forgot my ear issues and all symptoms got worse when it rained. Then I figured out they get worse when barometric pressure is low.

Motheroflittle profile image
Motheroflittle in reply to WIZARD6787

I have migraine headaches when the barometric pressure changes quickly or an extreme rise & drop. I have not found anything to stop the headache or even help. Just wait for the weather to change again.
