I haven't yet watched this video - but what you said struck a chord with me.

When I was really ill, I could not read a book at all or listen to music if doing anything else. Concentration issues, easily distracted ("dog-brained"), very poor memory and cognitive problems.

I found visual memory far easier - so watched TV but kept to simple plotlines, slower movements, not too many characters. At the pictures, same thing. Also read graphic novels - the pictures really helped.

I have now started reading again - mostly aloud, to partner, which helps because we can review before starting the next chapter. If I start a book alone, I often abandon it if I've forgotten what happened last. Shame, as I used to read a lot and effortlessly.

Although I am much better now, I have retained a real love of graphic novels and still very rarely listen to music. Even in the car, I can't concentrate on listening to someone talking as well as having music on. Don't mind a singalong. Can't do earphones.

I have tried not to lose too much - just adapted where I've had to.

I replied yesterday to post -( re haematologist vs neurologist) - said that I was surprised that brain MRI showed no abnormalities: this is in part why.

The other part had to do with irrational unanticipated mood-swings.

And a craving for solitude- needing a day off from people. Given the above restrictions on my ability to socialise, perhaps unsurprising. Did a lot of walking which was incidentally beneficial to osteoporosis of the spine.

Also found that trying to concentrate/understand/remember became progressively more difficult so restricting visiting to an hour easier to handle and not too exhausting on B12. Restaurants not possible then. A gradual reintroduction (a quiet Tuesday lunch perhaps ?) may be a good way to see how that improves over time.

You may not be at this stage yet, but might be reassuring to know it is possible when ready.

Thank you for your reply! Thank you for sharing. It was helpful to me.

In February 2020 I was in a restaurant that I used to go to most mornings. I was going through a period of only eating because I had to. I ate and then was tired. I said to my good friend who was a waitress "I was all set to go grocery shopping and now I am not, What is up with that? She said being supportive " Well go and get it done and you will feel good about it. I said honestly " No I won't.' I now understand that was about fatigue caused by my life long B12 deficiency.

I also that month designed a drawing for a "thank you for being you card' which I make and send to my daughters. I am just now able to start drawing again.

On October 3 2020 I released I had not made that card and was distressed. I knew something was wrong and did the life style thing figuring I would regroup and do the card. Mid November 2020 I was in the hospital. One hematologist said 4 weeks from death.

So I am getting to the point of this comment now I have finished the prelude. 😀

I could 'accomplish' the drawing of the thank you for being you card. That is not as important as if I get energy from drawing it or need to recover.

Note: I have a friend who experiences osteoporosis of the spine. He took D3 for about three months and was pain free. Might be something else that caused the pain to cease. Just though I would pass that along.

Hard work doing things that used to be so easy and enjoyable ? It does get better than this. It may take quite a while for you - you have been so ill.

Supermarkets were always the hardest chore - so much noise, bright lights, fast movements at periphery of vision, dizzying having to turn head up/down/left/right, having to recall where I'd been and what aisle I wanted, what I needed. All energy-sapping. Always cost me two/three hours nap on the sofa - just as soon as I'd thrown all the stuff into fridge/freezer/cupboard.

Now back to enjoying food shopping again.

The osteoporosis of the spine also improved. It is now demoted to osteopenia. I get D3 on prescription, and Raloxifene. When I asked what I could do for myself to prevent this worsening, I was told "walk, walk, walk" - so I did. I was surprised to find Dexascan evidence of improvement - I thought only possible to arrest deterioration. It could be just the medication - but going to continue walking anyway.

Glad that you are drawing again. Even if not often yet.

I gessoed half a dozen canvases this evening in preparation for spring. Can't do much in the winter evenings - my colours come out all wrong ! Was told by the optician that this was a pre-cataract condition: yellowing of lenses. Since then, I noticed on a symptoms list the following : " yellow-blue blindness may occur" - this was from "Pernicious Anaemia and B12 Deficiency" (Dr Colin Tidy 24th Jun 2016). I had often seen "blurry eyesight" mentioned before as a symptom, but not this.

Either explanation sounds reasonable. Bought some sunglasses with prescription lenses - just in case the optician is right !

Consider that the experts may not have your artists eye and therefore see it as a defect/symptom. When I said I started drawing I was referring to drawing geometric shapes or from memory. No way could I work in color at this latitude this time of year.

I went to Ecuador for one winter. No way could I draw with the sun directly overhead.

If I do not get my head right going into a grocery store or mall makes me sick to my stomach.

There was one brand new mall in Ecuador that did not make me sick. They are not as heavy on the bright colors there and the lighting is much better. The lighting is so good any photo comes out excellent. I had my mates confirm this.

I am all about walking and always have been. I used to walk 1/2 a mile to school until high school and I missed that walk in the morning and on the way home.
