Pernicious Anemia and Sjogren's

Hello! For the past year this group has been immensely helpful as I have learned about PA. I recently completed my first year of regular injections and am doing so much better! However, I have recently been diagnosed with Sjogren's. In doing a little research to learn more about Sjogren's I have learned it is not uncommon for Sjogren's patients to also have PA or a B12 deficiency. The Sjogren's page on HealthUnlocked isn't very active so I am hoping to connect with others here who might have Sjogren's as I just begin to explore treatments and how to managed this disease.

Thanks & Happy New Year!

Hi,

I hope you find others who can support you.

Do you mind me asking how you found out you had Sjogren's?

What sort of symptoms did you experience?

I have mentioned a terrible try mouth a few times to my PCP along with off and on mild joint pain. A year ago my ferritin was very low and I worked with a hematologist to bringing it up. When the dry mouth started we thought it was a few other things causing it like low iron, pity, etc. However, as those things resolved, the dry mouth didn’t. And my eyes became dry a few months ago. My PCP ran some labs (ANA and baseline Sjögren’s panel). ANA came back positive two times, each lab a month apart but the Sjogrens came back negative. She went ahead and sent me to a rheumatologist. After reviewing my symptoms he said he was going to run what’s called an early Sjogrens panel along with Lupus and Scleroderma panel but that he expected something on the Sjogrens panel to come back positive. One item on it came back positive and another two were borderline. In reading some studies many Sjogrens patients have low B12.
