Hey everyone,I have spoken to an out of hours doctor today. Who has sent a request to the GP to refer me to have an iron infusion.
Can I ask what to expect? I've never had one before.

I had 2 iron infusions and it was painless other than getting the needle in my vein right at the start. But it didn’t hurt much more than getting a blood draw. It’s like an IV where a bag of liquid “iron” drips into your vein. (I’m not sure what the iron in the bag is called. I was told there are at least 2 different kinds.) You just sit and read or visit with the nurse while it all happens. My levels went into a normal range after the iron infusions, but they want to check levels periodically to be sure they don’t go down again. I didn’t feel any different after the 2 infusions, but some people do.
hi there can I ask why you were referred for an iron infusion do you know what your iron saturation is? Ferritin etc and has your GP done this referral? I have seen a private DR who said I’m severely iron deficient and wanted to give iron infusion but I just could not afford it privately, (£950) my GP said I don’t need it, I’m so poorly tbh I know the GPs wrong, it’s been a nightmare for me obtaining any help from my GPs I have pernicious anemia too again had to go private for treatment, it’s so hard dealing with all this when you feel so poorly, I hope u get the infusion soon 👍🏼
