b12 and menstrual cycle

hi all just looking for other peoples experiences with pernicious anemia and the contraceptive pill. My doctor advised me to take the pill for 2 months in a row with a 4 day break after the 2 months before starting again for 2 months that’s because of my b12 deficiency I find after doing this for 3 years I need a break from the pill as my mood has been getting very low

Is there a link with decreasing b12 and your period. Thank you

Hi Patrice201,

I just wondered how often you get B12 injections.

I'm in UK and a lot of UK forum members find they cannot manage on NHS levels of treatment.

A few B12 links that may be of interest

PAS (Pernicious Anaemia Society)

Based in Wales, UK. Has some overseas members.

PAS membership is separate to membership of this forum.

There is a helpline number that PAS members can ring.

Do you mind me asking which country you are in?

If you're in UK, there's a lot more info I can pass onto you.

hi I’m in republic Of Ireland I have asked my doctor for more shots but he won’t give me them only once every 3 months. Do b12 tablets help at all?

I tried tablets to help between injections. and they didn't help .

I've obviously an absorption problem as have always eaten a mixed diet full of b12.

You can passively absorb about 1% think.

So a high dose is needed to get anything. 1 -2000mg some take more

push for 2 monthly injections at

See least. See another Gp.
