Subcutaneous self injecting. Struggling to "pinch an inch"...do I have enough subcutaneous tissue in stomach area?

Hi, new here. My functional health doctor has recommended B12 injections. I had my first dose at a clinic on Monday (intramuscular in arm) and now the plan is to administer 1mg on alternate days for 6 injections myself. I have all of the equipment and have watched and re-watched the Youtube video (Vitamin B12 Online) recommended, which shows how to administer a subcutaneous injection into "fat" /subcutaneous tissue of stomach. I just want to double check, I am tiny and as I have not been well/have lost weight it seems like there is very little no "fat"/subcutaneous tissue there. (I am sure there must be a bit!) I know to avoid the belly button area and go in at a 45 degree angle. Is this going to work??

Yes it will be fine.

What size needle are you using ?

I do sc at home also using thighs and stomach for 2 yests now

Upper arm okay too.

I have IM at thd surgery.

I withdrawn the b12 ftom thr ampoule with s 21g needle.

Then change to injecting needle.

I go straight in .

Then push b12 in slowly.

Withdraw needle slowly.

I was very thin at one stage .

We all have subcutaneous fat.

Hi Nackapan,

Many thanks for responding - much appreciated!

I am using 1/2 inch needles. I was recommended to get some blunt "fill" needles and then 1/2 inch needles for injecting. Actually, now I look at the injecting needle it isn't very long at all. However, I feel re-assured by response. Many thanks again.

I use 30G 1/2 " long.27-30 G suitable for sc.

The needle I use to withdrawal isn't blunt but s thicker needle 21g and longer . If it touches the glass vial it goes blunt.

Hence changing it.

Hope it goes well.

Why are you doing subcutaneous injections? I do my butt in the muscle.

Hi Haveitall, thanks for getting in touch. Subcutaneous was recommended by my functional health doctor. As a beginner I feel like I want to stick with that, at least initially. Might progress….

Subcut is just fine to use. Some find it is less effective than IM but many are fine with SC. 👍

Thanks for responding jade_s. Happy to report that I am managing the SC injections just fine. Haven’t noticed any difference in energy levels yet but it is v early days.
