B12 Test Kits

Could anyone recommend a reliable B12 Test Kit, UK please?

Reason I ask is just having changed location and obviously got a new GP, for the first time today I have actually been able to view my notes and blood tests online going back right into the 70,s.

I have coeliacs as well as hypothyroid. Last year my old GP said my B12 was low but wouldn’t treat until actually dropped below 200. It was 213. 🥺 I then said that if not going to treat I would have to buy my own injection from Germany and GP said that is probably a good idea!,

I used to get regular B12 injections until one particular GP said my levels were fine. Stopped the injections and I rapidly went downhill. At the moment I am so breathless, constant palpitations and fatigue is so bad that after breakfast my day is done.

Fast forward to today when I actually was able to get online to view some tests and reports. One of them states I actually have Pernicious Anemia.. What the hell!!! Why has no one discussed this with me and why am I not being treated!, Fuming!,

Anyway, before I make an appointment to see new GP, I would like to get a private test. Have used BlueHorizon before but they are expensive.

And a further question. How should I approach my new GP? I’m angry but don’t want to be confrontational as it is not new GP,s fault.

Several private tests provide Active B12 tests (rather than serum B12 - like NHS tests).

Not a criticism - just that GPs might not be familiar and could misinterpret.

The Thyroid UK website has a few testing services that sometimes offer discounts. Have a look here:

thyroiduk.org/help-and-supp...

Discounts often announced on the Thyroid UK forum.

(If PAS has anything similar, please delete this response. Not meaning to push anyone in any particular direction.)

If your file says you have Pernicious Anemia then you have shots for life. B12 is not to be continually tested. Once you're low and have an absorption issue there is no need to retest, as it has no bearing on supplementation.

And it is never a case for you that "Now it is in the normal range, you're cured."

It does not work that way, unless it is a definite diet issue. But even vegans/vegetarians can of course have absorption issues.
