I often think that there must be a GP or two / other consultants who read these posts . I would love to hear what they have to say about Pernicious Anaemia treatment in the U.K. Would love to hear their thoughts . They have a great opportunity to do that anonymously on this forum . But I only ever remember one retired GP being open and honest on the subject , in 8 years of reading posts.
Do I hope for a response in vain ?

As I read your post I thought, "there was one..." and then I read on! Oh well!
There's been at least one dentist too. More than one, I think.
I'm guessing that most think they know all there is to know and wouldn't look things up online.
I think that might be why we get a disproportionate number of midwives (other than their rate of exposure to nitrous oxide) - they are one of the few medics who get additional training in B12 & folate and neural tube defects, etc, so they know enough to know there's more to the subject, so they are more open minded to looking things up and hence find the forum.
I’m guessing the nearest we have now is the delightful “Flipper” who we sadly don’t hear much from now ,his replies to posts were always civil and informing. Best of luck wedgewood it would nice if you got a response from a gp.x
Yes FlipperTD is a scientist and he is great . But I wanted to hear from a GP . GPs have the power of life and death ( so to speak) over PA patients . Unless of course they are lucky enough to find the PAS. . and discover how to rescue themselves from the gross ignorance that most of us encounter .
I know - I do understand completely and this was why I was rechecking your post for responses - but it was too good an opportunity to miss in recognising the input from FlipperTD, as happypensionerclub had mentioned him.
Still here, chuck! I only throw something in if I think it's relevant, or perhaps irrelevant but amusing. [Or sometimes, I just can't help myself.] So there are times when I have to sit on my hands to keep them away from the keyboard.
My particular watchwords are
'Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought an idiot, than to open it and prove it'
But also
'Often in error, but never in doubt'.
I intend to stay on here as long as I can get away with it!
Flipper is still on site and often gives advice on the understanding of blood results - Thanks Flipper for your help.
As for a Dr we can hope but would they come to our rescue or admit they have been misguided with regard our treatment ? ? ? Doubtful when they are all programmed to follow certain guidlines.
I remember (I assume it was) Martyn Hooper yelling me he was off to do a talk to GPs, and does that from time to time. is that a way to encourage them over here?
They don’t need to come onto a forum Wedgwood, they have their regular local gatherings where they all agree with whomsoever talks the loudest. They don’t listen to Dr Google. I have a very good friend who retired as a GP a while ago. He is quite scathing in his comments about the current state of the ‘profession’.
I was, a few years ago now, seeing Adult Metabolic Inherited Diseases consultants - they had in the end been unable to find any answers from my DNA. They were lovely people, recognising that they were probably the end of the road for me as far as getting answers goes.
They recognised that I was ill, they could not find any reason - for which they apologised ! -and then suggested that I could find support from the Pernicious Anaemia Society !
When I told them I was already a member, we had a discussion: they knew of Martyn Hooper, they knew about his involvement with new research.
Disappointed as I was, this cheered me right up.
I really hope there are some GPs who look at this forum. I too have often wondered if their search ever leads this far.
" I really hope there are some GPs who look at this forum"
I would really be surprised if there are many if any at the moment. Seems to me that GPs are so stressed out at the moment, as soon as shift is over they want to distance themselves from anything medical ... even looking at the news !
Little bit over the top, for me. My surgery, for a phone appointment, you have to wait either 10,12 or my last one was 18 days, never waited that long even for a facial. Then the gp lied to me, told me to wait 7 to 10 days for a phone call for my physio, if no call, phone the surgery and get the number. They gave a pals number, who put me through, but it was an automated answer phone, saying " leave a message ". This continued for 3 weeks, and I finally got through, and the woman said there is no appointment, the best that she can do, is a follow up for my arm only, that I had done in Jan, and part of several injuries, that the A&E doctor and gps ignored. So not busy for me, as for my facial, there was only 2 people in the waiting room, and I had to wait 40 mins to get seen.
We had to go private for specialist and physio, called an ambulance originally, the ambulance refused to take my partner, said he was in too much pain and the likelihood that he would have to wait in the ambulance another 10 hours.Turns out he had demyelination of his spine !
My neighborough also had problems eventually died.
The national health service can seriously damage your health and wealth.
Then on national TV 94 year from same area
Fell in the night... rang ambulance 3 times, the last time he said I am fading away, if you dont send the ambulance you'll need to send a coffin. He died later that day !!
Apologies apologies .....
Looking after my partner for months has been a nightmare and if they think an apology is satisfactory they might as well keep there mouths shut. The system in broken.
I have been to the surgery for injection ... nobody waiting !
Well let's hope we don't lose all the good ones. Job satisfaction on front line must be non-existant. Must also be difficult trying to help anyone satifactorily by phone, or facilitating secondary care appointments with lengthy and ever-growing waiting lists.
