Why cyanocobalamin injection is more helpful than hydroxocobalamin?

I inject cyanocobalamin three times a week and two times hydroxocobalamin a week. I feel difference between then but I think day after cyanocobalamin I feel less symptoms than days with hydroxocobalamin. So why cyanocobalamin injection is nit considered preferably better choice. I tried many cyanocobalamin types from many countries but German cyanocobalamin is nit effective like sone other countries cyanocobalamin for example Sandoz brand from Canada.

I guess nobody really knows why one works better than the other for some. For me cyano doesn't work well, i need hydroxy. The 'preferred' kind sort of depends on the country, but it's good we have choices since not everyone does better on cyano, or on hydroxy.

And there is at least 1 brand of German hydroxy that for me is like injecting water, no idea why it doesn't work (others like it just fine).

This is a great discussion Hamayeshguy and would be good to hear from others. I started on Cyanocobalamin and was on that weekly, 1000mcg injections, then I switch to Methylcobalamin. Both CyanoB12 and HydroxoB12 are manufactured forms of B12 and thus more readily available and less expensive. CyanoB12 is pushed by the medical industry in US and Hydroxo by UK. I do believe it is due to availability and cost. These two forms require that your body convert them to methyl before usable. But Methyl is a natural form of B12 requiring no conversion. I did notice a big improvement in my neuro symptoms after starting Methyl injections.

I'm glad methyl works for you but it is not a "more natural" form of B12.

MoKayD, I admit there is a lot of conflicting information out there. But, strictly from my research, and I am certainly no expert here, there are three natural forms of vitamin B12 are commercially available: methylcobalamin (MeCbl), adenosylcobalamin (AdCbl), and hydroxycobalamin (OHCbl). MeCbl and AdCbl are naturally occurring in the foods (meat and insects) that we eat and these are also “active” forms of B12 readily usable within the body. Cynocobalamin (CNCbl) is a synthetic form.

I am not as familiar with Hydroxocobalamin but seems used in UK. From the site UK NHS site which states that “Hydroxocobalamin is a manufactured version of the vitamin B12.”

nhs.uk/medicines/hydroxocob...

Both OHCbl like CNCbl have to be converted inside the body to either MeCbl or AdCbl.

Here is another site that provides a decent discussion on the differences of each.

Ultimately one must decide and use which form works best for their own self. Just know there are options and also I have read that AdCbl works best to repair neurological symptoms but I'm unable to find that reference at the moment.

Great discussion though if there is other information out there, I am very interested.

Where we can buy AdCbl?Your shared articles are so informative?

Some research also has mentioned effectiveness of AdCbl in treatment of relapsing MS.

Rexz,I agree to go with whatever form and regime of B12 supplementing that works for you, however as far as labeling which forms predominantly work well for people, I've read that hydroxocobalamin is the best form to use. It is true that both hydroxo and cyanocobalamins are both made synthetically usually by bacteria, but the difference is that cyancobalamin is not found in our food, but it is in the case of hydroxocobalamin. So hydroxocobalamin can appear in our bodies just with our dietary intake, but not cyancobalamin. The good thing about hydroxocobalamin is that it is a precursor for adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin. This is a good thing as then your body can use it in which ever forms it deems it needs most.

Hamayeshguy,I'll admit that I didn't take the time to look up if you've posted and you're new to B12 supplementing. I will say that if you are new it is hard to judge which form is giving you what symptoms in such a short time frame. I would suggest sticking with one form of B12 for a bit and defintely know you're on the upward track before messing with the fine tuning of which forms to use.

My start of B12 was supplementing in 2018 was rocky to the stay the least, but as I learned towards the end, sometimes your symptoms get worse before they get better. I started with cyancobalamin and there are some that say that if you have a MTHFR mutation (which I do) than that form of B12 can cause issues. Others, have pointed out that it could have been fillers along with the cyancobalamin that gave me issues. I do know that I started mildly with just taking cyancobalamin orally (I didn't know how low I was) and I would get a fever for 30-60 min afterwards. I definitely got worse instead of better including losing 10 lbs., no energy etc. But to this day I don't know whether it was the "worse before better" situation or because of cyancobalamin. My guess was a little of both, I was getting better energy/eating wise but when I was getting shots of cyancobalamin I would get fevers randomly for hours and then be fine. It was so weird.

Anyways, I tell you my story to show that I definitely think it can be individualized. For me, I did about 3 shots of the cyano a week apart, before I could tell I was having reactions. But still, I do think they upped my levels into the mangageable low range of B12 and so I was able to survive okay when I switched to oral methylcobalamin. But I couldn't kick all the little symptoms just supplementing with oral B12, and thankfully eventually through this forum, I found the way to get hydroxyocobalamin ordered from Germany and sent to me. Ever since I started injecting with hydroxy I've been able to keep my symptoms at bay and not go thru the fever craziness that I went through at the beginning.

If you're not already doing it, I would also advise keeping track of your symptoms, I do it on an app and rate each of them vs what supplement form you're taking or what else is going in your life at the time. Test one until you get reasonably stable than try another if you're hoping to use a cheaper or more convient etc. one. Hope that helps and good luck to you!

For almost one year I started self injection before that I was on just pills for about seven months. At begining bi started with cyanocobalamin injection then after couple of months I added methylcobalamine sustain release along with cyanocobalamin injection then switched Hydroxocobalamin and now I inject both Hydroxocobalamin and cyanocobalamin. Now I'm planning to switch to methycobal Amin injection to see which form is more helpful. But sometimes I see cyanocobalamin injection works better and I don't why.
