Hi. I was diagnosed with PA about 6 years ago. I had my B12 shots at my surgery but after my initial boosters, they only gave me 1 a month (if that). So when Covid rocked up, I bought everything myself and have been self injecting for the last few years with my GP’s approval. I’m just about to run out of ampoules, but managed to get some yesterday. Hoping the post won’t be too long. I’m going to be more frequent when I get this batch. I sure feel it when I go without. Have a good weekend everyone :)

Hello Disco5

Welcome here. Great to hear that you have your GPs approval to self inject.

Best wishes

Thank you! It wasn’t so much an ‘approval’, but he is definitely aware that I’m doing it, and have been for a while, and seems ok with it!

That is quite different. At least it’s not the it’s toxic, addictive comments which are quite often heard.

Yes , I was told how stupid I was to self-inject as it was “TOXIC”. I was also told that I was the only P.A. patient in a large practice ( 10 doctor surgery ) who self-injects . Everyone was satisfied with the only treatment the surgery gives , namely 1injection every 3 months ! I know personally 2 patients in the practice who self -inject . But they don’t tell their doctor because they don’t want to annoy , or have the flack .

Wedgewood,

A complete re-education is required. In the meantime, I’m keeping quiet about my frequency. I am externally grateful that you pm’d me.

Thank you so, so much. 😁

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm glad you have an understanding GP.

There is a helpline number that PAS members can ring.

B12 Deficiency Info website

Links to forum threads where I left detailed replies with lots of B12 deficiency info eg causes and symptoms, UK B12 documents, B12 books, B12 websites and B12 articles and a few hints on dealing with unhelpful GPs.

Some links may have details that could be upsetting.

Some of the info will be specific to UK.
