Hi was supplementing with methyl b12 2000mcg and a December blood test showed 1900 high levels of b12. 6 weeks later tested active b12 and it is still very high over 1600, Imy gene report states I have trouble absorbing b12, so how can I get it down? I am suffering anxiety and insomnia and wondering if it could be the high b12 doing this. Please help I am so anxious I have done this to myself

Don't worry about the high levels .

It may be thd sort of b12 if those symptoms are new.

What were yoyr symptoms before supplementing?

Had you had a low b12 before?

Do check ic folate ferritin .vi t d are okay

No b12 has always been good. Ferritin is 19, vit d 106, I think folate was 9.9. used to get tingly legs especially while on period.

Oh so b12 hax always been good.

What were your symptoms before supplementing b12?

Have you been diagnosed with functional b12 deficiency then?

Bit confused why on high b12 supplements

No , I don’t think that the high level of B12 in your blood is causing you problems . I’m always off the scale, over 2,000 , when I have a blood test ( not from my surgery, a private one. ) I think that P.A. patients need to have a high blood level of B12 , always. The B12 is only absorbed when it’s in your cells , not when it’s floating around in your blood . So certainly do not worry about those high levels . Your GP won’t like them , but that’s because of the poor understanding of B12 deficiency/P.A. Worrying that you have caused those symptoms to yourself , will only make them worse . Anxiety is certainly one of the many symptoms of P.A. / B12 deficiency . You need to keep supplementing. And do take a modest 400 mcg of Folic acid too . Best wishes .

Yes, it can be the b12 causing your anxiety, b12 is the energy vitamin and if you take too much can make you anxious, especially methyl because it goes straight into the cells. You may have to wait or burn it off with exercise if you are well enough. I know how you feel, I've been there, it will be ok, hope you feel better soon

Thank you. How long did it take you to start to feel better? I'm also going through the menopause too. Apparently I don't absorb b12 very well. Not sure as some say it could be low others say it could be high.how do I test that? Any ideas? I have taken some b12 last few days and ddare I say it I've felt better than not taking it.

Hi, mine b12 wasn't as high as yours it was about 400 and I was only taking the vitamins, not injections, but the day after I took them I would be very anxious, hyper and very angry, other people on here have had the same thing. I am coeliac so I have trouble absorbing nutrients. I think what is happening with you is you have had a huge amount of b12 and then you stopped taking it, the body will then throw a deficiency because it's used to getting that amount everyday or as often as you're taking it. I don't think you need to be 2000, somewhere between 300 and 900 is fine

Was this a total B12 test or the Active B12, as the latter assesses how much B12 available at cellular level?

1900 was total but I had a private test and the attached picture is result of active b12.

Personally I cant take methyl b12, it caused me anxiety,Possibly same with you ! Try different b12

I would ask doctor about iron levels ?

Best wishes
