Hives from Injections?

I've noticed over the past month that I keep getting what I thought were mosquito bites. Very itchy red welts with a yellowish center. After yesterday's injection I got more, and I realized now that the weather is a bit cooler that the bumps are in areas not exposed, so likely not bites. My face has been extremely itchy too. I'm scheduled for another injection tomorrow and will have the nurse look before I go forward with it. But I am worried I might be allergic to the cyano or one of the ingredients in the injection. I guess I would need to change the type of B12 if that is the case, or does this mean I will be allergic to all injections? It's also possible it's caused by one of the supplements I added recently, or possibly the carafate I started again for my gastritis. (I've had this before on many occasions with no trouble).

Just curious is anyone else has experienced this. I get rashes from many foods and medications, so I know I am prone to allergy and intolerance.

It's more likely with what you describe a local reaction. So could be the actual injection rather tgsn allergic to an additive I had a reaction to an addictive but affected ne all over making ne very ill.

Or as you say process if elimination.

If not on the actual injection site viujd be a common reaction causing sore spots red with heads . Not squeezable .

I got theses with loading doses on my face hairline ears and back.

Very rarely now I get an odd one.

Look on the leaflet online .

The nurse certainly hadn't seen them before. Glad I posted at the time as common.

Thanks Nackapan. They are scattered and not all near the injection site, but they itch intensely. Wondering if I need to stop injections until I figure out what the source is.

Mine were nowhere near the injection site. Have a read of the leaflet online of side effects .

The spots I had were very similar to moscito bites

Another possibility is shingles

One theory is that these are due to micro-organisms that live on your skin reacting to the higher levels of B12 by secreting substances that are toxic and you have a particular sensitivity to. It is a known side effect but medics frequently don't seem to be aware of it - possible that a pharmacist might be able to recommend a wash that helps.

Interesting. I wonder if this is why my face also itches intensely on and off. The derm told me to use Head and Shoulders on my face and body a few times a week and it seems to help the itch. Placebo?

doubt it is a placebo but effectively washing and keeping the toxins that your skin is reacting down to levels that your skin can cope with

There is a gluten-related rash called dermatitis herpetiformis that can be very itchy and look like you describe. I recently read about someone who had an outbreak after a b12 shot. (celiac.com/forums/topic/122... The rash is sometimes worsened by iodine.

This is really interesting. I have been gluten-free for 20 years (negative for celiac) and from time to time I get the kind of rash described in that post. Thank you for sharing!

I had similar experience when accidentally took too much of B12 (methylcobalamin). I usually take 1000mcg daily, sublingually, but that day I took B complex in addition, which also containes 1000mgc. 20 minutes after taking it I got itchy urticaria on my face, arms and back. It was getting worse, so I had to go to ER for steroid shot to calm the allergic reaction.It happened 3 months ago and since then I haven't taken any B12 supplement, I'm affraid what might happen.

I also get hives but found out they are allergy caused by the bandage applied after the injection. Just try removing it after it stops bleeding.
