Pain from B12 injections.

I've been injecting B12, alternate days, for 3months now. Over the last 3weeks the pain I experience in my nerves affected by neuropathy, about 6hours after the injection, has got worse and worse, until I experience pain at a level about a 7/10 just for the nerves that I have the neuropathy in. The pain lasts for about 24 hours and then slowly begins to subside. It takes about three days for the pain to go completely. I've stopped injecting every other day, as that means I'm in so much pain, I don't want to be in my own body. Does any one else experience this pain after injection or anything like it? I feel completely in a rock and a hard place and very frightened and anxious.

All my cofactors are ok, I take a mixture of folate and folic acid. I've just had blood tests back from the doctor and everything is normal - potassium, magnesium, electrolytes, liver enzymes, haematology - all fine.

Can anyone help, reassure or just tell me what your own experiences are? I've run out of resources and feel so alone with this.

I'v not had this experience, but it sounds alarming and distressing. Perhaps now that messages are passing along nerve fibres more efficiently, the effects of damage to the myelin sheath around them are becoming apparent? That's just my guess. I'm not sure what you can do, but perhaps someone else will have a suggestion.

Are you injecting hyroxo? If you're injecting IM, perhaps subQ will release the B12 more slowly and produce less pain?

Thank you Hillwoman. I am at my wits end. The pain from the neuropathy was bad enough, but this is horrendous. I'm thinking I might write to the Viopath lab and see if they can help. Thanks for replying I don't feel quite so alone.

I inject into the front of my thigh or sub cut in my stomach fat, so that's not the problem.

Hidden - don't think that you managed to post the links to the videos

I inject into the front of my thigh and sub cut into belly fat, so I don't think that's the problem.

Don't know whether you saw this thread - not quite what you are talking about in terms of the scale but obvious that there are people out there who have problems

Another thought, related to my first comment, is that perhaps your brain is not correctly modulating the signals it is receiving. It's unused to receiving messages from damaged nerves, so perhaps the brain's interpretation is incorrect? Again, I'm just guessing, but you might need a neurologist's help to determine what is going on. Neuropathic pain is horrible, so if you can get a recommendation for specialists in your area, I think that might be your best option.

Thanks again Hillwoman, that's a good suggestion. I wish there were more neurologists that understand B12. I think I might do some ringing round tomorrow.

The pain is a counter intuitive symptom. For me it was tooth pain that was excruciating.

The B12 and supporting supplements of folic acid, B6 and multivitamin are allowing the repair process to occur.

The signal on the nerve is stronger and my experience is it takes 2-3 days for the brain to recalibrate to the stronger signal. In the meantime, it thinks it is pain.

Gentle movement of the muscles with range of motion exercises utilizes the nerves and stimulates the repair.

Getting started is the hardest. But I find that once I get going, and I pace myself, things get easier and the pain disappears.

The pain is also stronger with stress and worry. I use a logbook to monitor the severity of my symptoms. After the injection, the stronger the symptoms, the lower my B12 level was before the injection.

The logbook give me some control back and allows me to relax and not stress out worrying about where the symptom arose from.

Telling myself that the pain is only an illusion worked ok for muscles but was completely useless for tooth pain.

Hi! I'm currently in this same situation and I'm curious; did your toothache go away (and after how much time) and do you overall feel that it was worth it? Aka do you still think it was 'a good sign'? I'm in quite some agony, and several doctors hold conflicting views. The ones I'm being treated by hold your story (it's a sign of the nerves healing itself, push though) and another says that it's clearly overstimulating my nervous system, possibly damaging and I should stop at once.

So I'm very curious what your experience has been. Thanks for sharing!

Cyano weekly 1ml at 1000 mcg/ml is the prescription from my GP.

I also supplement with 4x 5000mcg sublingual methyl per day to get through meetings at work and deal with extra stress.

Stress really consumes B12 and makes it run out faster in the body. Since my stomach doesn't produce enough IF to recycle it from the gut, it really is like I'm consuming B12.

Hi sorry for the late reply.

I have daily b 12 and daily magnesium sulphate injections.

My specialist told me to inject b12 into my arm and I have no issues. Magnesium sulphate does cause me issues like yours so I use the upper outer part of my legs say once a week and and the back of my waist near my hip bone.

I did swap over- big mistake I ended up with a dead arm and painful leg. I go in a jacuzzi at my gym so the jets help the injection sites and take away any lumps.

Try your arms I think you will be better of.

Best wishes.

i had this too......literally would get the most awful nerve pain in a molar and would ring for an emergency dental appointment only for the pain to be gone the next morning. I took it as part of the healing process and what worked for me was more B12 - every day injections or every second day.....it is like your nerves go haywire when the B12 is being uptaken but hopefully as healing continues the pain will go...mine did.
