Iron and b12 supplements

Hi all,

Quick question, but if I supplement with a vitamin b complex, will this deplete iron reserves? I ask as my ferritin levels were at the low end of normal, so don't want them to deplete any further.

Thanks!

No I thought only dropped if you had to make new blood cells if anaemic at thd start.I've questioned this as my ferritin dropped when commencing on b12 injections.

As needed b12 no choice.

Not needed iron before but maybe another abdorbtion problem.

Under the supervision of my G.p I do take iron and my bloods are checked regularly

My ferritin level now 62.

Was told yiu can get symptoms if Low ferritin if under 5o.

A full blood iron count is needed and looked at as a whole picture.

As Nackapan says B complex will not affect iron. Please note that whilst ferritin is a good indicator of iron status it does not tell the whole story and you need a full iron panel to diagnose iron deficiency.

I presume you do not have a diagnosis of PA. Unless you have an absorption problem I would recommend sticking with supplements based on RDA. If you do have an absorption problem then oral supplementation may not be effective for you.
