Last year I had an infection in my gums after getting a tooth extracted and had all sorts of nerve issues (tingling, numbness) for a couple months. I had what felt like stomach indigestion (but normal bowel movements) and extreme fatigue (sleeping 10-11 hours a night and 1-2 naps a day).
Then I started taking cyanocobalamin injections and everything started to get better. I went from 3x1mL injection a week to .5mL every 7-10 days. Then everything just seemed to stop working after about a year. Now I'm again taking 1mL every 3-4 days (which seems okay but not as good as before).
I've also tried methyl b12 injections and sublingual pills and they just seem to only have a very short term effect.
Questions I am struggling with:
1. what underlying issues might b12 be helping? (seems like the PA crowd has some insight here!)
2. Why does cyanocobalamin work better than methyl b12? Anyone else experience this?
3. Any other types of b12 I should try?

Hydro b12 could be something you might benefit from. I also got very little results from methl b12. The difference between the two is like night and day.
Have you had bloods done this trsf to check folate ferritin iron vit d thyroid ect
I think we all go through phases of 'catch up ' 'set backs'
I akso had dental problems last year resulting in a tricky extraction due to delay in treatment
I've never get 'right' but it set me back months.
Even seeing family or a friend sets me back days. All very frustrating as want to do things. Expectations are not high. Are yours?
Chronic fatigue/ me seems to be a symptom of b12 deficiency that I do not understand.
Even with strong motivation a strong will I find myself drifting through days just relieved to be pain free or head pains can cope with.wondering if j wi be able to read a book agsin one day.
I uses Hydroxocobalamin as its the one prescribed. Also reported to be stable.
So I've no comparison.
All I know is my body doesn't seem to ce able to utilises food or supplements in the way it shoukd.
I'm trying to get back to a daily walk. I tried yesterday. On return found myself sitting just staring into space. If I described any of this to my Gp they would immediately think depression.
So I know where you are coming from.
I know I'm not depressed but trying to explain symptoms getting harder .
Like you I wonder if something s been missed. Or what needs healing now?
Sometimes on the same regime I csn then puck up with no rhyme or reason. Like a switch goes on . But it has a faulty connection
I need alot of rest at present. For me thus hasn't been possible for a couple of years as restless with pain so alot of distraction needed.
So the biggest catch up of all??
I would stay with what you are doing .
I've stuck to a b12 injection every 6th day (5-7 days) for a year now.
If possible try Hydroxocobalamin.
Not sure if available where you are.
At the end of the day though b12 is b12 In whatever form.
I hope you pick up soon but no harm in getting bloods done ect to review.
I think there is this idea that we only need a certain amount of B12 as normally people only need a very small amount. B12 is stored in the liver and if you have lost that capacity to store it it could be you need a more constant stream. Processing of b12 is a complex process where it can go wrong at many levels. Im definately not an expert on this, just someone who suffers, but am sure someone else can explain this far better than me.
All I know is that I started of injecting B12 Hydrox ( standard form in the uk) every other day due to neurological symptoms plus very low level of b12 and after a few months had to increase to daily to resolve most symptoms. Two years on ended up increasing to twice daily after my symptoms returned. Going gluten free recently has helped me a lot and my digestive system has settled down. I had wondered if this would mean I need less b12......but currently after 5 months gluten free that hasnt changed....whether it will in the long term I dont know. .To get any small effect from supplements I had to take 10,000mg B12, sublingual on top of injections. Ive sometimes used the methyl form of b12 to top me up ontop of injections when stressed. The methyl form of this seems to help a bit. Folate is very important and the b's work together so I take a low b complex daily as well, though Im a bit hit and miss on this! Methy b12 in injection form I trialled a few injection but didnt notice it made much difference to the hydrox form, in Japan they use Methyl injections as their standard treatment.
So I suggest you worry less about how much you are taking or injecting but just do it to what works for you. We are all very different and have vastly varying needs........and to date I dont think the medical world has unravelled all the complexities of b12. Any excess of B12 is excreted out in your urine.
I know what you mean your not alone, my injections have never given me a boost.I too sleep like you.
I read somewhere that if you don't get any boost from a B12 injection you probably don't have PA.
Well what the Hell have got.. after 15 years i.m totally over feeling like crap every day even living in a town that has over 2700 hours of sun shine every year so heaven knows how you poor Brits get by.
Grrrrrr life sux most of the time then I think of my poor sister. Married a Pom and suffers from vitamin d deficiency cause of the bleak UK environment she and so many on this site have to live in, so I smile and thank God I live in NZ.
