B12 level after a year of twice weekly injections.

Hello everyone. I would be interested in your opinions regarding my recent b12 test results done at my regular physical 2 days ago. I have a history of PA diagnosed 1 year ago after having almost a year of semi-numbness neuropathy. I also had macrocytic anemia and subacute combined degeneration of my cervical spine. I received my initial loading doses of cyanocobalamin and have been SI 1mg of cyanocobalamin 2 times weekly under the direction and prescription of my physician. At my physical, my physician said she was going to test my b12, which she thought would be "sky high". My physician suggested I continue with the same frequency of injections for at least another year, due to my persisting neurological symptoms. I received my results today and my b12 was 936 pg/ml with a normal range of 239-931 pg/ml. I'm only 5 points above the high normal range after SI 2 times weekly for a year. I anticipated it would be much higher. Does anyone have any opinions about this? Thank you in advance for your opinions.

My only feeling on this as not medical. Perhaps your body just is efficient at getting rid of what you not using ?

At least you top of the range.

Hopefully maintaining this

I woukd expect only thises on regular injections coukd stay at that level.

Perhaps have every other day ?

What has your physician said?

In the UK Hydroxocobalamin is mainly used and although may stay in your system longer still is or should be given every other day until no further improvement with neurological symptoms.

Also make sure folate .vit d . And ferritin are at good levels. Anything else tested you can get .

Are you also on iron as a maintenence dose?

It does take sometimes years to get improvements.

I wish you well.

Thank you for your response. All other levels were in normal range. I should hear from my physician today. Most doctors offices hear in the US post the lab results to the patients secure online account so I was able to see the results.

It's possible that the range they quote tops out at 931 pg/mL because that the highest amount that they can measure. Although I don't know how they'd get up to 936?

However, your levels are, indeed, sky high, so I would have expected some improvement in your symptoms after a year.

I inject 3 times per week and have for 3 years now. The highest my level has ever been was 1300. Even after missing an entire week I’m only in the 700’s. I always thought mine would be much higher as well.
