Brexit Blocking B12 Supplies?

Hello, I'm new here. Diagnosed with B12D in 2017. Been self-injecting with supplies from Germany - as GP wouldn’t increase dosage- but company can no longer supply “due to Brexit”. Anyone else had same problem & where else can supplies be got from?

Yes, lots of us.

My favourite supplier, along with many others, refuse to pay the UK government money for the privilege of collecting VAT for the UK government. So they refuse to ship anything to the UK.

Still, blue bananas and bendy passports make it all worthwhile.

These two suppliers still ship to the UK.

Thanks for this :) I have just ordered. I have out of date vials of methylcobalamin —May 2020 and hydroxycobalamin March 2019. Can these be used, my hands are pins and needles ing like they did when I was first diagnosed or I wouldn’t ask.

Two years past the expiry date might be a bit too much, even for hydroxocobalamin. 11 months is also probably too much for methylcobalamin, which is a lot less stable in solution.

In your best opinion if hydroxy has been kept in the dark (boxed )in a cupboard how long after expiry would it still be good to use? Thank again.

I really do not know.

Fair enough but I am guessing two or three months should be fine.

Yes, I would use hydroxocobalamin if it were a few months past expiry. Indeed, I ordered so much pre-Brexit that my current supply will be six months past when I finally use the last 20 vials. But I'll probably still use it.

Then again, I do lots of things that I wouldn't recommend others doing.

I am sure you are being safe your knowledge will not allow you to do crazy things. Three or four months past use by date is no real problem imo, especially if it's still boxed and out of the daylight.

Thanks for the advice, fbirder. Managed to order new supplies but from a new source. Shouldn't have to do this really as it is a bit of a lottery when it comes to GPS dispensing - they're too fond of playing God with other people's lives. Validity wise, my last hydroxocobalamin vials are valid till 6/22 (ordered in 5/20) so that's a reasonable run.
