B12 supplied at GP Surgery

Hello, for the last 6 months or so my GP has been supplying the B12 vials for injecting at the surgery. Previously I picked up a script and got the vials myself from the pharmacy. Co-incidentally since then I have not really felt the benefit of the b12 jab as well as I am having skin outbreaks on my face and arms. Never had any issues before and wondered if this is related to the quality of the B12 vials they are using.

Shouldn't be .I've been on it for over 5 yesrs .

Just see what brands they use .

I kept notes and symptom charts for years.

I've been okay on

Gerot and Lannoch

Accord

Neo'cytamen from NHS prescription B12

The skin outbreaks are a normal side effects for everyone.

It's old cells . Like a detox.

Or body adjusting to high levels of b12 after being starved.

A more scientific explanation on diderot posts if you use the search bar or Google.

It's only the additives/ preservatives that differ slightly with brands .

I have had PA for over 10 years and never had any problems. Sometimes self inject with my own from Germany and no issues. It just seems odd but I will ask the nurse what brand they are using. The outbreaks on my skin have been really unpleasant. Never had that previously other than when I first started B12 Injections. Thank you though I will inquire with my Surgery at my next appt.

Do you mind me asking what you mean by skin outbreaks?

Like red welts on my face and on my arms. They are starting to calm down but due a Jab soon and worried it will flare up again. Preservatives in the vitamin would make sense.

Sorry to hear that. I've had that reaction to the brand in using but only locally to where I am injecting. I hope you find the solution!

It sounds like hives from an allergic reaction possibly caused by some additives. Maybe find out what the GP was using and go back to that brand? Benadryl helps me when I get hives from drugs I am allergic to. I don't think it is good to keep using it if you are allergic to it. Sometimes people end up with an anaphylactic reaction and without quick access to an epi-pen, that could be fatal.

I get this when I am not getting enough folate. Started when Brexit meant we could not harvest enough dark green vegetables. Several months of EOD 5mg Folic acid is fixing it and about to reduce this to 5mg EOD. B12 works hand in hand with folate.

that’s interesting as GP stopped prescribing 5mg folate so I have been taking OTC which is much lower dose
