It is acknowledged that even many years of daily injections of B12 of any description be they Cynocobalamin, Hydroxocobalamin or Methylcobalamin pose no problems at all . The Dutch have researched this very thoroughly and have published the research . Sorry I don’t have the reference / link to it , but you should find it somewhere in the “ Pinned Posts “ on the right hand side. But someone will send you the link . But in the meantime , put your mind at rest . Yes you get the debilitating symptoms because you need those injections if you don’t get them . One day , you will probably be able to inject less often . But keep up,the good work .
My web browser is so good at remembering my searches that all I need to do is type 'stich', or ' 50 years', into the search bar and it pops up the correct page.
This is about a problem I have. I have a continuous infection of the bladder and the consultant put me on 100mg trimethoprim tablets daily for life. It’s embarrassing as have to visit the toilet 4/5 times every night. I am on 40mg simvastatin every night as well as phenergan 25 mg and zolpidem tartrate 10mg every night. I have read that some of these medications can cause side effects. I am very concerned . I have PA for over 30 years and had monthly injection from the surgery but since I moved to this country 6 years ago my B12 was reduced to every 3 months. During the epidemic I was told to get b12 tablets and couldn’t get the injection. It was then that I came to your site and took your advice about self injecting. I can not approach my gp as they are difficult to talk to. I know that the injections have been a real tonic for me but I think that some of the tablets that I am taking shouldn’t be prescribed together.I am sorry wedgewood but you have been so helpful in the past you could put my mind at ease. Thank you higgey
You now have the reference you need from our good scientific friend fbirder . If you look for stichtingb12tekort.nl ( Dutch foundation for B12 deficiency ) You will get all their articles ( in Dutch!)But if you go down the page you will find the site with several useful articles in English .All worth a read .
I have one kidney and inject twice a week. I have since a year ago October. My kidney has been my greatest concern.
I have had a significant drop in my GFR. About 13 points. It is worrisome for me.
But like fbirder said - mine has not come with excess protein.
I might inject with hydroxocobalamin every third or fourth shot just in case cyanocobalamin is an issue for me. Thinking that hydroxocobalamin is used to remove cyanide. If that thought process even makes sense.
I hesitated to write this as I am dealing with the drop blindly, and can offer no productive insight.
Thanks for your reply. Mine have dropped 21 points in a year. However, if B12 did this to kidneys, surely we would hear more about it? Plus the evidence mentioned on the link below would have commented on this?
Do you take other supplements? For one month I took high doseage vitamin C to help with iron absorption: this is more likely to cause damage.
Also, a few people told me that there can much variation depending on how hydrated we are at time of test.
Hydration can make a tremendous difference, for sure.
But my GP did a retest with a two to three week break, and there was no difference. My drop did not change with hydration, unfortunately. I was hoping.
No no supplements.
I am at a loss.
The only good news on my side is that I went most of the year and a half injecting with only a small drop. This latest one was quick.
My GP didn't think it was a big deal. a la that is a great number for one kidney. Ignoring the drop aspect. I just happened to see my gynaecologist and he was like nope, that is not normal at all. Even with one kidney.
My GP thinks it is raised blood pressure, now that she has been pushed on the issue I didn't even bring up the b12. - lost cause with her. However mine is not crazy at all., BP And this drop came out of the blue.
My body is just completely out of whack, all of a sudden. I think something is going on in my body that is unfound at this point. An entire systemic issue. I am simply hoping it is not the b12 - your post just made me go hmm.
That’s really interesting as it’s the same with me: over a few days didn’t feel great. My bp is now based around 140/90 which is high for me. I am also weeing a lot and thirsty. The GP is calling me this morning to see if I have a kidney infection. I have no pain though and no, “it’s not anxiety”.
My concern was whether B12 has caused decline in kidney. I’ve spoken to daily injectors even those who take more than me and they’ve had no problem with kidneys over a longer period. I can’t find any research that links B12 with kidney issues (albeit there not being much research anyway...).
I also spoke to some people who said the test results fluctuate a lot: is not the reliable. I will ask my GP today.
