Frequent Infections - deficiency related?

Purplegirl2 profile image

Over the past year I’ve had a lot of infections that I normally never get or get rarely. Two toe infections, hand fungal infection, ear infections, eye infection. I don’t understand why. I have good hygiene.

I assume this means that my immune system is not very strong?

Anyone with some insight would be appreciated. My drs don’t seem concerned, each infection isn’t really a big deal - but it is the frequency that bothers me.

Hi,

Sorry to read that you are having constant infections.

I struggled with various fungal and yeast issues eg ringworm, candida, athletes foot etc which I think was due to B12 deficiency affecting my immune system.

The problems stopped when I got enough B12. I also cut down on sugar.

Oh I see, I didn’t realize that low b12 and fungal infections are connected. That makes a lot of sense.

My daughter had a few yesrscof similar things Fungal toes infection.

Infected throat lymph glands

Bakers knee

Rashes

Dry cracked skin

Gums bleeding

Hair loss

Vertigo

Neck spasms

Loke you say each individual thing not taken seriously

For her thus started before low folate and low b12 and low ferritin found.also megobalastic anaemia.

She also had alot of joint pain.

I woukd ask for a blood test to check all your levels.

Not b12 asxi assume you are on injections.

Folate and ferritin and vit d and thyroid not always done routinely

Have bio yoghurt less refined sugar

White vinegar foot washes

Perhaos even a tablet to rid your body from thrush from the inside out.

I had to have one after oral thrush .a first.that came after antibiotics fir dental treatment that didn't go with a local treatment.

Thrush often comes with any autoimmune problem.

Also if blood sugars a bit high.

Vit c helps.

Looking at your diet helps

Thank you! That is very helpful. Right now treating the b12 weekly with injections. Not certain if I still have megaloblastic anemia or if it has been resolved. I have very low ferritin too.

My folate was actually high (told it was >24 whatever that means... not sure if it is good or bad...

My Drs refuse to treat the low ferritin so I don’t know what to do about that.

I had low vit d so I take vit d3 1,000 a day, zinc every day, vitamin c to help my immune system.

I eat plenty of iron foods so feeling confused about the ferritin issue. Coming up on 3 years and still not resolved, very frustrating.

The hand fungal infection is relentless so I might consider an oral anti fungal, the ointments aren’t good enough

How low is your vitamin d? Do you have a number? Asking because if it is really low it needs a short aggressive supplementation schedule, that is monitored.

1000/day will not do much if it is extremely low.

I had sepsis twice before they found the b12 deficiency. And after testing everything under the sun a source was never found. They actually think my body created it internally - no outside source, which is hardly comforting!

Fortunately I am not vitamin d deficient, it is a good level I think. It was at 31 last time it was checked. My dr wanted it to be a little higher so I’m taking a daily supplement but I don’t need to worry about aggressive supplementation. So not really “low”, but could be higher. So I can get away with taking 1,000 vit d3 daily.

I am sorry it took so long for your Drs to notice your deficiency! Oh sepsis sounds awful!! I hope your immune system is in a better place now.

It’s a difficult one, I had a lot of infections before treatment but I still get some of them. I think my health had got so bad that I was prone to infections. PA is an overactive immune system reaction though.

I believe that the most important thing you can do to rid yourself of these fungal infections is to go on a long term low carbohydrate diet and especially cutting out the refined carbs you find in highly processed foods. The pills that your doctor would supply are very destructive to your microbiome, can cause liver problems and often only provide temporary relief.

I had candida after several courses of antibiotics.

I found that the only answer is to cut out sugar and foods containing yeast.
