Hi

I am a young lady 38 years old and my active b12 test result came back as 256.0 pmol/L ( reference active b12 range 25 - 165 pmol/L) As i am trying to conceive i have been taking pregnacare tablets preconception and i did have a b12 injection for an energy boost end of September2020. Most days i was also taking a 500-1000 mcg tablet of b12 for around 10 weeks? I don't know why either!

Anyway i am concerned why its so high, does anyone know if tablets can cause active b12 rise so much. If i stop these can i bring levels down within a month?

Thanks im a nervous wreck!

Yes. The tablets can raise your B12. But it's almost certainly the injection that got it that high.

Your levels will stay high for several months. Fortunately, there is little to no risk of having very high B12.

Yes i thought the injection might have bumped it up good point , but was under the impression 10 weeks thereabouts was the turnaround for any ' impact' to have dropped off by then, but i suppose if levels were normal to begin with its just adding to it!

Had you a b12 deficiency before supplementing? Are you well?

Your supplements have obviously been absorbed ! and leveks will come down if you just stick to your pregnacare supplement and nof take anything else.

Thanks do you know if levels can fall as quickly as 3 weeks if all suppliments are stopped?

As fbirder said it will probably take longer . Your levels will gradually drop.

On thus forum we have b12 injections to try and get well or keep well from a deficiency so run high levels all of the time.

I reslises better levels of b12 is said ti aid conceiving as are good folate levels.

So I would continue with your pregnacare supplements only.

I hope you are reassured about the high levels of b12 right now. T c
