Diagnoised with PA, I was on 2 x per week June and July, then august 11th been self injecting daily. Moved to EOD before Christmas, whilst my physical sy proms have significantly healed and reduced, and some of my depression and anxiety and paranoia have reduced. I still have serious brain fog, dizziness, feel like I am drunk, concussed type symtpoms. No motivation and energy. I just don't know how long I can carry on, it is horrendous. I am 47 and had 154 and 152 b12 levels for 2 years and eventually went down to 127 before injections. I feel like I have been deficient my whole life. If it wasn't for covid I would have lost my job. My folate was low at 10 but now 25, iron is 53 but I am on supplements for both. I had a few less shit weeks and bang right back to being terrible.

Hi PhilAB sorry to hear your suffering.I’ve been pretty much the same one step forward two back but you have to just keep plodding away,I’ve been getting hit with what feels like one virus after another or could it be COVID and the after effects I don’t know.

I tried to reduce my frequency again and got ill again coincidence i don’t know but I’ve went straight back to my e.o.d frequency.I’m still feeling rough.

When you feel like this it may be a good idea to go back to every day and stay with that during these winter months,I know the shots are a pain in the butt I hate having to do them too but they’re also a lifesaver and this has to be about our quality of life.I think things always feel worse during the winter months and lockdowns not helping us but try and keep up your regime that helps you, that’s all I can suggest sorry.take care

Thanks thrones, although I was initally worried about injections they actually do not bother me at all. I would inject into my eyes if it made me feel normal. I have moved to an organic, gluten free and dairy free diet in order to help my healing. I also have researched best supplements in order to aid my recovery, yet I am still haunted by a serious of symptoms which are simply so difficult to bear 😒 Waking up like I have been hit by a train is so difficult to deal with. My concentration, peripheral vision is affected when I feel like this. I am currently doing my 3rd masters for my current role and I am working at 5% of my mental capacity. It is horrendous. Like I have mentioned my blood look really good apart from my b12.

Hello Phil

Really sorry you are suffering.😔

Are you eating foods rich in potassium?

Especially if you are self injecting every other day

I take methyltetrahydrofolate and adenosylcobalamin as I take methyl and hudro alternatively. I also drink 1 litre of coconut water per day, 2 bananas, kale daily and other potassium rich foods.

Just a thought.....

It really is swings and round abouts for a while till you find the balance, but to be honest, maybe you could be expecting a little bit to much to feel right so soon.

Keep pushing on, wishing you all the best. X

If you can get them to check your blood levels for as many things as possible. If you can get full blood work done the better.

You need a full range of vitamins and minerals to enable your body to utilise the B12 and folate properly and just one thing in short supply becomes a limiting factor and so nothing works as well as it is should.

If you are anxious it sounds like a methylation problem but you are dealing with that - although don't over methylate.

I'd definitely go back to at least every day B12 until you are well again, get your bloods done and supplement accordingly. You may be surprised how much you need, especially during the healing phase, so get retested regularly.

As well as a broad range of all vitamins and minerals (many people find taking a broad spectrum multivitamin and mineral supplement is useful) with frequent B12 injections you will need extra folate ✔️, potassium, magnesium, iron ✔️and vitamin D - obviously ideally from your diet but maybe from supplements to get any low levels up.

As said, thyroid is a good one to check too - and any underlying causes for your B12 deficiency as extreme deficiencies don't usually occur on their own.

I've done nearly 6 years of daily B12 jabs and have gone from barely able to walk or talk to outwardly appearing fine despite a range of problems causing my issues. My cognitive function is still improving but is almost all back now and I lost the fog after about 2 and a half years of jabs.

It's early days for you so keep up your inputs, your belief in your recovery and your efforts at not giving up searching for a solution until you've found one!

Good luck!

Hi PhilAB,

Have you had your vitamin D levels checked? I just know from my own experience how debilitated I was when mine were very low.

Again ferritin would be something else to get checked if you don't know your levels.

Also it may be helpful if you get a thyroid panel done; gp's don't do full testing so you'd have to do a finger prick type/home test; there's lots of advice regarding testing on the thyroid forum so it may be worth having a look there.

I'm not a medical expert but I do know from personal experience how unwell you can feel particularly when vitamin D levels are low.

The people on this forum and the thyroid one also are very knowledgeable and are very supportive.

Take care and hope you start to feel better soon.

I'm sorry you are having such a rough time of it. This may not apply to your situation, but did you try to make up for lost time when you were feeling better? I find that if I do something physically demanding (for me) when I have string together some good energy days, it can set me back awhile. How long that "while" might be varies from a few days to a week or more. It was even longer years ago when I first began injections. (It took over 20 years to get diagnosed, so there was a lot to make up for). It's hard not to jump into something like sweeping out the garage or a good scrub down on part of the house of washing and cleaning the car when you've not been up to doing much for a while. Now that I know what it will cost me, though, I take that into account and either go ahead or parcel the job into smaller bits. Much harder to do than it sounds, I know.
