Hi all. Anybody knows belly button bulging related to B12 deficiency since I was diagnosed in 2013 with low B12 but didn't seek proper treatment and had injection for three times only . Since then gradually many symptoms started to develop. At the beginning it was just losing muscle volume then problem in walking specially on stairs . Then I felt my lower abdomen getting pressurized and my eyes started to get blurred and last year I found I have double vision and my lower abdomen has feeling of pressure and my belly button is bulged. I know neurologic symptoms is different in people but I want to talk about that with my gastroenterologist. Do you think is there any relationship. Sorry for my grammar.

If the B12 deficiency is caused by Pernicious Anaemia , then there is definitely a link . The Intrinsic Factor Antibodies produced by P.A. attack the parietal cells in the stomach . This causes the depletion of the intrinsic factor necessary for B12 absorption . The stomach acid also produced by those cells is also depleted or annihilated . The lack of stomach acid upsets the stomach flora ( good bacteria) This causes stomach contents to ferment . The resulting gases cause bloating and pain . Bad bacteria take over . and you have what you describe as “ bulged belly button” . Other symptoms from the B12 deficiency are myriad , and vary from person to person . Many symptoms will become irreversible if correct treatment is not obtained .Sufficient B12 injections ,accompanied by modest Folic acid will correct the B12 deficiency and its symptoms .A good probiotic called Symprove helped my stomach problems . Probiotics encourage good bacteria . Also probiotic foods like organic raw sauerkraut , real yoghurt , kimchi etc.

Some people redress the lack of stomach acid with HCL Betaine + pepsin capsules ,or some sort of acid drink with meals , especially ones containing meat and other proteins .

Smaller meals more often and thorough chewing of food also helps . I think that stomach acid is now being treated with the respect it deserves at last .Very important for our good health and immune system .

Best wishes .

Just a thought (and I’m not a medic so this might be nothing) but has your bulged belly button been examined in case you have a hernia?

Already I had c.t. scan from my stomach and ultrasound and also stool test. Everything was fine but due to covid19 outbreak my gastroenterologist through online video call examined me and asked me to do some more test in hospital for calcium h.pylori antibody and albumin. I have done this but my next online examine session is January 29. Since I'm taking B12 for almost five months I feel better. I don't feel pain but it's like pressure inside and when I have some physical activity it causes low grade fever and some breathlessness and sweating then feeling depression and pressure it's so weird feeling. Most of my symptoms are gone except this one and blurred eyes but blurred eyes and double vision getting improved. The other problem is severe allergies especially to chemicals like hair dye but it also improved. Tinnitus also getting better. Tiredness is much less than before. I hope this problem also go away.
