Bringing hydroxocobalamin ampoules into the USA from Europe

Hi!

Has anyone brought their B12 ampoules in to the USA from Europe? I have hydroxocobalamin (with a prescription: 17 ampoules) and also ones I ordered from Germany (without prescription: 10 or 20 ampoules). Do you think it’s ok to bring both? I’ll be arriving at JFK. I’ll pack my syringes etc. into my main luggage but will be taking the ampoules into my hand carrier. Also, can the B12 get ruined somehow due to screening and the cold air in the plane?

Thank you for the help!!

I can only answer one part of your question. The screening process will not harm the ampoules , and neither will the temperature in the cabin They obviously should not freeze or be in a temperature above 25c , and kept dark . I have taken ampoules to Thailand in hand luggage without any problem . .

I'm afraid the news isn't good -

In most cases, it’s illegal for people to import drugs into the United States for personal use. That’s because drugs available in other countries haven’t been evaluated or approved by FDA for use or sale in the U.S., so we can’t ensure that they’re safe and effective. FDA generally considers such drugs unapproved.

Although looking at this document - fda.gov/media/83411/download - it seems the reason they're not keen on people bringing prescription drugs into the USA is that they are so much cheaper everywhere else.

Happy to update: I brought 35 (1ml each) ampoules with me in my carry on without any problems or qustions. 15 of the prescription ones and 20 from the German pharmacy. I had the prescription ones in a separate plastic bag and the rest in the same bag with all my liquids. I just told the security that there was prescription medication in the separate bag and he said no problem. At the US border, they didn't care or ask me anything about them. They really don't seem to care as it's a vitamin. I brought a year's supply of needles and syringes and just packed them in my luggage instead of carry on.
