B12 Injections

Hi all,

The past couple of times, I've had my B12 injections at 10 weeks stage instead of the 12 weeks stage, due to getting the following symptoms from around week 8 - cramping in hands, tiredness, severe dizzy spells, irritable, mood swings. How ever. I've rang the doctors to arrange another injection (my last one was Oct 2nd) and the receptionist told me she can't book me in till the 22nd Jan 2021. I told her that's wrong and that's way past the 12 weeks. She had to go and see the nurse and apparently the nurse agreed.

I'm now waiting for a call back from the nurse, can she refuse to do my injections early and leave me till 16 weeks?

Any advice is appreciated.

Phone again and tell the receptionist you need to speak to a real doctor.

That certainly is my intention but not all GPs are not that knowledgeable about PA. When I was diagnosed in March this year, I was given a print out of what PA is, symptoms and how it's treated. So, not sure how to explain to my GP, that the injections are not lasting 12 weeks.

Ask then to read the bnf guidelines 2-3 monthly . I had to as needed every other day re started as too many neurological symptoms going on. Write. And or speak to the Gp

I arrived 'early for one injection. The nurses cannot do it if on your notes 12 weekly a day early. !in my cases the doctor wrote 12 weekly in error! As thars the 'norm' However you should not be left longer . That is awful. Cruel infact.

Many medical people are ignorant of the need for b12 injections. If you need more frequent injections it shouldnt be refused so you will need to push. The Nice guidelines say bi monthly if needed. Some of us need high frequency injections. I have to inject twice daily but I do them myself. Its important your treatment is not delayed to avoid long term damage.
