Brands for needles/syringes?

The only syringes i've used were from my doctor. now ordering my own. but a little apprehensive about getting something of poor quality or cheap materials. is a needle a needle? maybe they are all made in the same factory in china and branded differently. but maybe there is a big difference....sharper, less toxic materials, smoother plungers?

i was going to order on amazon but i find a lot of brands that don't appear on sites that specialize in hypodermics. should i care? amazon is fast for delivery.

and yes, i can find the brand my doc got. henry schein. 25g x 5/8" they seem great as i hardly feel them. but when i've found them they take a while to ship.

thx

Not sure if you’re in UK or U.S. I get mine from my nurse. They’re 25g 1ml. Here in the states you can order syringes on Amazon.

I got mine from medisave. I was concentrating on making sure the syringe was compatible with the needle. If you look on fbirder posts or wedgewood you will find a shopping lit.

25G would e good for IM . Our nutss uses 23G. The higher the number the finer the needle. They is probably the finest to go. Some use slightly finer but are experienced. There is a risk if too fine needke could break.

So perhaps aim for the size you are used to .

Needles are cheap online. I use ' nevershare' which are fine but nothing compare to as no idea what the nurses uses .

Or wait thr shipping time as you can have more confidence and get a 100??

yes, i have seen the shopping lists. they are more about where to get things not what brands are trustworthy. at least that was my impression.

i am in the states. and amazon will ship needles to me (every state is different i believe. but in California, where i live, i can get them) but amazon is full of all kinds of crappy products imo. i've even stopped trusting their recommendations because they tend to be such low quality. all kinds of mystery brand needles on there. : ) ????

i talked to my sister who is a nurse practitioner (can prescribe meds like a doctor). she said they use BD where she works for draw needles. And my doctor got me henry schein which seemed very nice and sharp. after going to a bunch sites here in the USA i found tiger medical. i still have to vet them a bit. but they have a good selection of the brands mentioned above. they ship a lot of things in 1-2 days. the website is easy to navigate (some are terrible). if i order there i'll try and update this.

i just figure if you are injecting a lot then the materials and build quality might matter. not trying to get some nasty residual in my body.

Single sterile needles should all be fine .Otherwise they would go out of business

My husband injects 4 times a day . So far so good. For over 26 years .

Just buy from a reputable company and dont worry too much.

Scientist's answer.

Needles are needles are needles! In terms of compatibility, then the classic 'Needle & Syringe' combination uses a Luer taper, so any Luer syringe, any maker, will fit any Luer taper needle regardless of maker and size. There is also 'Luer Lock'; the syringe has a taper hub with a collar, so the needle screws on and won't easily come off.

The gauge is probably 'SWG'; Standard Wire Gauge. However there's American Wire Gauge, which is similar but not identical. Bigger number, thinner needle. They're all very, very sharp indeed. On very, very rare occasions one might not be quite as sharp, but those cases are vanishingly rare.

Historical horror stories of needles breaking are just that; nowadays they're made of very soft metal, so they'll bend easily but breaking requires more effort.

There are other styles of needle used for blood collection; these are double-ended and compatible with blood tubes of various types but not suitable for injections.

Historically, there was also the'Record' taper, which is smaller than Luer.

I'm in North Carolina and a retired Paramedic. In the 32 years I worked we almost always used the BD brand in various sizes and never had any problems and have never seen a broken needle of any size. I have bent a few but never broken one. For IM self injecting I would recommend a 1cc or 3cc syringe with a 25g x 1" needle

I self inject and that is what the pharmacy provides me.

The exact syringe they currently provide me is "BD plastipak 3ml syringe (Luer-Lok) Tip with BD PrecisionGlide needle

25G x 1 (0.5mm x 25mm)" They are in blue and white packaging.

I believe FlipperTD, Nackapan, and Haveitall have all provided you with accurate information.

As long as you can verify the company is still in existence, and everything is in sterile packaging,

I personally would not be concerned with brand names.

Good luck to you.

BD & Monoject are the top brands in the USA. I can occasionally find them on Amazon, but more often order whatever 3ml syringe w/23g 1" needle is available. Most come from China or India, The needles occasionally feel a bit less sharp but of no real consequence to me. I also buy an extra box of 25g 1" needles for injection and use the ones that come on the syringe as a draw then change it to the 25g. Just make sure you don't accidentally order the blunt tip needles. They really hurt! 😂
