How do I go about getting an intrinsic factor test please? Is this something a GP can do on request at an appointment or do they need as advance notice?
Can you get privately?
Also- baby b12 test. Is it possible to do a finger prick or does a vile need to be taken?
Many thanks

My GP organised an IF test when it was discovered my B12 was low. At my surgery, the GP usually leaves on record details of the blood test needed and it’s then up to the patient to book a test with the nurse for a blood draw. You’ll have to find out what arrangements are in place in your surgery.
I’m sorry I don’t know how much blood is needed for a B12 test.
Your GP will only order an Intrinsic Factor Antibody test if he/she suspects that you might have Pernicious Anaemia., It is not a finger-prick test . You can get one privately ( Medichecks do one for £100.00 plus a charge for a nurse to take your blood sample ) Bear in mind that this test may not show up as positive even if you do have Pernicious Anaemia - The anti bodies do not always show up even if you have Pernicious Anaemia —about 50% of the time You can get a kit for a finger-prick test for Active B12 from private laboratories— cost about £49.00
