Any idea why I get so angry and irritable for a few days after my b12 injection?

I lose interest in everything and everyone and just want to be on my own, sometimes I think I'm losing my mind it's scary. Also taking folic acid once a week to coincide with my weekly injection as well as a b complex, many thanks

Why are you taking folic acid just once a week? Folate is eliminated fairly quickly (there's no point in the body storing it because a normal diet should supply plenty for a normal person). If this is high-dose (more than 1 mg) then it may explain your irritability.

If your B complex has 200 to 400 mcg then one of them a day should be plenty.

So I'm taking too much folic acid or too little? Currently taking 5mg a day and it is helping . Thanks .

Unless you were deficient in folate and your doctor has prescribed 5mg then you are taking too much if you’re taking 5mg a day (your post says you take it once a week but your reply says daily).

As recommended by fbirder, 200-400mcg daily should be sufficient (assuming you’re not deficient).

If your doctor is prescribing 5000 mcg a day then that's OK (but I would ask my doctor about it). If the doc isn't prescribing it then you may be taking too much. There is a good reason why doctors are only licensed to prescribe it for four months, except in special cases.

Thanks for that I'll now start taking 5mg a week and see how things go .

No.

5mg a day (the same as 5000 mcg a day) should not be done without a doctor's prescription. Doses over 1000 mcg a day can be harmful, especially if you have a B12 deficiency.

400 mcg a day should be enough for almost anybody. Take that much for a month then have your folate checked.
