I was scared to do an IM injection in the thigh as it seems like the needle would go straight through to the bone! So instead I tried injecting in the fat in my stomach using a 30G 6/8 needle. I managed to inject some of it however I had to apply quite a lot of pressure to get liquid in which put me off a bit and I gave up after about 20% of the dose went in. Is it normal to feel a lot of resistance while injecting and pressure in the area? Is it because of the gage of the needle? I've never injected myself or had an injection in my stomach fat before however I've seen people give themselves insulin jabs and it looks easy as anything! I'm not sure why I was having so much trouble.
Does anyone have any advice?

It does seem like it will go into the bone but it doesn’t! Unless you are very very skinny? Was it a 1 inch needle?
This might sound a bit gruesome for some, but I can feel it when it penetrates the muscle tissue. Then it stings when the hydroxycobalamin B12 enters the muscle. Sometimes I inject a little, feel no sting so press needle more deeply then feel the sting to tell me the depth.
Is there any chance you could get a nurse to inject in your thigh and show you how?
In terms of the sub cut injection, the needle was too fine and so the pressure needed was too high. Personally I would use a 23g needle.
I inject sub cut into my stomach using 1.ml 29G x 0.5 syringes but don't have any issues with resistance. I tend to insert the needle at a bit of an angle using the area an inch or two either side of my belly button and push the plunger slowly for a count of 20 to reduce to the sting.
The idea of subcut is you pinch & inject 90° down into what you’re pinching.
No matter how skinny you are, everyone can pinch an inch of skin. If you’re pinching a 1” high fold of skin & sticking a 1/2” needle into it, they you know your into subconscious fat beneath the skin & not muscle, veins, bones or vital organs .
All I've tried actually and it's gone well. You can use your thighs arms back of hip with sc too.
I get some resistance at times but push in steadily. My husband is type 1 diabetic ans uses all theses bodily areas . Just dont overuse one area as it can get fibrous /tough. .but that is in my husbands cases after over 25 years of 4 injections a day. What happened to him once was the fibrous tissue held the insulin. He later have more ax blood sugars raising. In the shower the warm eater released all the insulin from the tissue at once . He collapsed in a hypo .
That wint happen tk us but the b12 could get delayed. Try a different brand of sc needle ??
