Day patches

I've recently upped my injection frequency.

No idea if this is a reason.

I've got small oval very dry patches that get very angry if I miss one with loads of emollient or cream. This is new to me . Although not anywhere as troublesome as any other symptoms is new and sore.

Has anyone else after a couple of years got eczema like patches ? Mainly on legs so not caused by detergents or clothing or body heat as exposed this time of year.

I've had eczema in the past and going fragrance -free cleared it up.but since starting on insulin I have a very large patch of it on my left shin-very itchy without cream-don't know why either!

Yes odd. New to me . I've got scent feed eczema products . Vaseline to protect.

I’ve had this. My patches weren’t very big at all. Maybe the size of a pound coin?

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toLoola88

Yes the same size I'm getting. Only recently started. I missed one behind my knee and it was horrid .

Even though it lymes disease at one point.

I also get dry itchy skin patches. My inner ears are the worst. I have several different creams I apply in rotation.

Any suggestions would be helpful. My GP did prescribe a very strong cream for my ears, which I am reluctant to use.

I also have patches in my ears. I've had these first for months. I dry them meticulously after washing my hair. I have used calendular cream. Vaseline before washing my hair to heal them if bleeding I use a tiny bit of either hydrocortisone cream supermarkets own or metanium. Once healed barrier creams. When sore feels like razor blades . Odd isnt it. I've bought some emollient for the bath and e45 body wash. I like you rotate loads of different creams. Heml good too. Derma care i use for my hand as well. Boots or the actual Derma care. It's just a good barrier. I've never had to do all this before b12 deficiency. Likewise any good ones let me know. Thete are si many on the market.

Another cream you haven't mentioned is tea tree cream.

ENT advised to make a small cotton wool ball, coat in vaseline, pop in ear before showering. He advised not to get ears wet but sometimes I forget.

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply tococoa

Arrh yes I do have that combined with lavender.

I think you right to alternate. Just used an e4o bodywash . No different from Derma care or others . Soap free . Have to be careful not to slip as seems worse than oil.

Yes that sounds sensible to coat cotton wool with vaseline . Everything is such a performance lol

To think when I was working in big hospital years ago (The Middlesex now knocked down)

I didnt have a bath or shower where I lived. So had a bowl. With a coin metre for hot water. A bath was an event at The nurses accommodation.

My skin was lovely. Perhaps over washing does not help. Or going back to topping and tailing . My nan had lovely feet as a foot soak works wonders She put Epsom salts in . She thought daily full baths bad for you!!

Did all this happen alongside b12 deficiency/PA?

cocoa profile image
cocoa in reply toNackapan

Thinking back, I would say yes.

Still no firm diagnosis but the skin problems have not always been there.

Perhaps baby products would be worth trying.

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply tococoa

Same here.

Yes baby baths non perfumed baths everything free baths . I think it's too many baths that dosent help.

No over not had this before b12 deficiency/PA

Another treatment option, which I haven't tried, is coal tar products. My daughter, who has psoriasis, was prescribed this by the hospital when she was a child.

I too had one behind my knee. They’re raised and very dry. I can’t lie I left mine alone and they did disappear. It was about 2 years after treatment just went away after about 6 months.

Arrh same timing, same place. I try and leave alone but some need attention! Thanks

Defo, especially if they’re sore! Who knew b12 could cause all these weird and wonderful symptoms. Hope they clear up real soon x

Maybe a pharmacist could help? I’m wondering about ringworm where an anti fungal treatment would be needed.

Loola88 profile image
Loola88 in reply toJanD236

Mine defo wasn’t ring worm

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toJanD236

Yes I thought of that but not ringworm.

Pharmacist basically says what we are doing emollients ect. Not to let it crack or get I fected. Some hydrocortisone have anti fungi in. I used a tiny bit when had oral thrush after 2 courss of antibiotics for tooth extraction as obviously in body.

But resorted to a one of canastan tablet as pharmacist suggested after second amoxicillin. Despite copious amounts if natural live yoghurt and tried probiotic. My ears sore for over a year infact.

Thanks for reply and thoughts

I get patches of eczema on my legs from time to time. Presently I'm using creams from the surgery, an emollient base then Mometasone furoate. My skin is prone to flare ups from allergens, contact dermatitis from latex etc.

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply toShowgem

Thats useful to know. Yes that reminds me i had a reaction to some glasses amongst other things leading up to diagnosis of b12 deficiency.

Turned out it was the metal in the wobbly things across your nose. Nickel. I'm not or want the allergic sort. Things change. .

in reply toNackapan

Have you tried organic coconut oil Nackapan,I use that for just about everything as I’m so easily burnt with creams and lotions.its anti fungal and anti bacterial and is really good for this type of dry patch.x

No I havent . Thank you.

I do have a jar. I have loads all over my legs!!

Stitches are out of my mouth tra la. Week 4 . Slow recovery though . I credible compared to last one 16 years ago

Am wondering if dry oaval patches its because I've increased b12 injections . I'm keeping them up though at present. Never ends.

Hope all going okay with you

in reply toNackapan

That’s good re thos3 stitches bet your mouth feels so much better now, when I had my wisdoms out I thought I’d never recover I’d so many stitches and my face was every colour of the rainbow with the bruising don’t think I ever forgot that.

Yes all’s well here thank you,had a very good positive week.x

Yes I also had wisdom out in my 20s I looked like a hamster. Had a yellow v from bruising on my chest. They dont seem to remove them sk readily these days. I was working on maternity. As it was cancelled and I was mucking up the staff rotation the officer in charge put me in a single room on maternity to get it done do I coukd get back to work lol. Had some very funny looks from the women with no bump or baby. Yes this stitches wernt disolvable and had tk be removed . This experience makes me realise the ongoing symptoms of b12 deficiency/PA make everything so much harder. My body yes is older but mainly struggling to work properly cannot be underestimated. I'm trying tj get a stradief flow of b12 in my system as the peaks and troughs I personallt find very hard to deal with as symptoms overwhelming. We all will hopefully find a way. T C

I have one small patch of eczema that popped up on the top of my right foot soon after my PA diagnosis. I have been treating it constantly since then with varying degrees of success, none of which has cleared it completely. Primary doc related it to possibly my diabetes and gave me an Rx for Triamcinolone, a couple years later, rheumatology shrugged his shoulders and gave me an Rx for Triamcinolone. I used it along with moisturizer and OTC cortisone for anti-itch. Saw dermatology last week and he gave me another Rx for Triamcinolone and said that factors in the gut cause varying degrees of skin problems and said the best thing is to manage it the way I have been, but will probably never go away. It sometimes gets angry looking and itches, other times it's not bad at all. It used to bother me since I live in FL and always wore shorts and flip flops virtually all the time. But now, since my Gi bleed causes my iron levels to drop, I am always freezing cold and rarely am without socks, long pants and shoes.

Oh okay thankyou . It's new to me . Jus5 to add to a whole string of other symptoms. I've loads all over my legs. I had the odd one before.

Thses are sore and angry though.

Hope you get tour iron levels up. T c

I would ask for a referral to a good dermatologist Nackapan. It may well be Psoriasis as that’s an autoimmune disease so it’d be worth getting it checked just In case. ?xx
