Royal Pharmaceutical Society & B12D.

Did anyone hear on the news today an interview from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society?

They were stating what most on here will know anyway, the use of Nitrous Oxide & how it depletes B12.

The discussion was about how cases are rising with people misusing Nitrous Oxide, street name - Hippy Crack. The person stated how it depletes B12, which is essential for our Central Nervous & Immune system to work properly.

I thought it was good to hear from the RPS, if at least to spread more education & awareness.

good to see, my last hospital appt for a Colonoscopy I happened to mention to the consultant regarding my B12 deficiency and she said good that I mentioned it as the sedation affects nerves and causes damage, but as I was undergoing treatment, I was in fact safe.

I'm sure I've read some posts on here a while ago about people saying they questioned dr's when offered it in hospital saying they had a B12D, & the dr's said it doesn't affect it?

Knowing me though I've got it wrong 😁

I would think that this would depend entirely on two things: exposure time and whether your B12 deficiency is being controlled adequately.

On exposure time: I once had an operation which was scheduled to last for one and a half hours but actually took nearer three and a half. Partner told "Well, she did bleed a lot" - hopefully not for the whole three and a half hours !

If there are other options available, I'd probably go for that !

Don't forget to get B12 deficiency on dental records, too. If anyone is taking Risedronate for osteoporosis, dentists like to know that too. (No, I didn't know either)
