Have any of you know of any correlation between systemic fungal infections and gastro issues?
It was brought up in an epi facebook group which I follow. Candida was specifically mentioned.
I have recently re-discovered a fungal infection in a sensitive area - i took treatment for it many years ago and either it came back or didnt clear. Its not in an area of my body i see often, particularly as i take my glasses off to shower etc and i cant see myself!
I also have a nail infection that will not shift, even with a three month followed by six month treatment of terbinafine.
I feel that this is an area i want to explore with my gp but am unsure what to request test wise.
Maybe it would have been picked up by tests the gastro carried out already?

The lack of stomach acid in PA patients means they are susceptible to candida Albicans infections. The thing is that GPs in the k do not routinely test for it and there is some disagreement about the role over-gown candida causes. It is definitely true that if you also have EPI then your chances of getting an overgrowth are increased significantly.
Inflections can be difficult to deal with and to keep at bay. The first obvious place to start is diet - you need to avoid complex carbs and sugar as candida loves it and uses it to multiply. The second are is getting rid of it. If you can get your GP to accept you have it and that it is causing you issues they are likely to give you fluconazole over 2 weeks to get rid of it. You need to keep it away with diet. Other than that Caprylic Acid tablets three times a day with meals and Oregano oil (4 drops in a tablespoon of olive oil) for a maximum of 20 days should shift it.
If you have Pernicious Anaemia, you will have low/ no stomach acid .Hypochlorhydria/Achloryhdria. ( the antibodies you produce destroy the parietal cells which produce stomach acid and the Intrinsic Factor ) This upsets the stomach flora ( bacteria ) which has consequences for the gut . Bad bacteria get the upper hand and stomach pain , flatulence etc occurs . . . Also fungal infections can flare up as a result e.g. candida . A good probiotic can help get balance back in the gut I found that a course of Symprove , a water-based probiotic, very helpful indeed in correcting the balance of good bacteria .
Yes , that’s what I took . It’s rather expensive unfortunately . Also , I’m have taken to organic kefir. Organic sauerkraut contains lots of probiotics if you eat it raw ( you can make your own of course, but I’m getting too lazy !)
Very interesting post. I have PA and coeliac diesease. No stomach acid. Candida I cannot shift despite no sugar for years and courses of fluconazole. I hadn’t made a PA connection.
