B12 and yeast/mold allergy

Is there any evidence that people with mold/yeast allergy should not supplement with B12, as my understanding is all B vitamins are grown on yeast. I have had a very difficult time with B vitamins in general. I have had severe mold/yeast allergy since early childhood.

Vitamin B12 is produced by a limited number of bacteria, not yeasts or fungi/molds, three of which—Pseudomonas denitrificans, Bacillus megaterium, and Propionibacterium freudenreichii—are used for commercial production.

I can understand your concerns but vitamins are too essential for life to not have them and maybe if you get enough B12 and supporting supplements your body will work better and be less intolerant.

No B12 isn't grown using yeast. They use bacteria - Pseudomonas denitrificans, Propionibacterium shermanii, or Sinorhizobium meliloti . Although it is likely that production in the future will move to genetically engineered E. coli.

I have this problem too.

I have been avoiding products with added b12 due to allergic reactions.

The only sources of b12 i can find are all yeast based or mushroom (also allergic).

I turned to spirulina (which is claimed to have no true b12) however I have certainly felt an improvement since taking it.

There is no B12 in spirulina. veganhealth.org/vitamin-b12... Early studies that claimed to find B12 used non-specific assays that cannot possibly tell real B12 from similar molecules.

The Vegan society looked at a small number of people with raised MMA. Spirulina did nothing at all to lower it.

In that case its quite strange that i don't have a deficiency, as its been more than 25 years since i had anything with proven b12

There are B12 sprays that claim the B12 is absorbed sublingually. In reality they are the same as any oral preparation, but some people may find that they are more comfortable with them.

Generally spray or tablet sublingual B12 has an absoption rate of only 1-2% so if you take this route you will need to purchase a high strength tablet or spray.

I have a yeast intolerance. My cousin is the same. I am not a vegetarian so for many years I was able to get my b12 needs met through eating meat. This has only changed because as Ive aged I am not absorbing b12 through my guts as previously so have had to move to injections. You say you have been fine for years so maybe your needs have been met through meat products which are a big source of b12.
