Hi Melody - yes that is a really low level and no doubt your doctor prescribed iron tablets? Unlike b12 it is not easy to inject iron so you must be really consistent about taking iron tablets according to dosage instructions and it will take a while before you see any improvement. Keep going! One of the reasons ferritin range is so broad is that ferritin levels range so much from person to person. My ferrtin (and all my kids) is always very low and I expect to take iron tablet every day for life.

It is very low and you should be taking iron. Did you have a full blood count? Your treatment will be depending on your levels but the gp will probably prescribe iron tablets to see if these bring your levels up. I’ve had tablets, injections and infusions.

Ferritin is iron stored in the liver. Often suggested a result around mid-range is good. Important to have Serum Iron tested and a Full Iron Profile.
