Nail colour changes

Hi - Has anyone else had nail colour changes with b12 and ferritin deficiency (b12 148, ferritin 7 then 15)? My nails have very white blobs in the middle or whole nail that very slowly improve and red bands at the top and above the half moon thing. There also very red as the white feels in. Thanks

I would get them looked at if very different from tour normal

The only time I've had white Mark's is if I knocked my nail then it groes up and put when nails need cutting

Can be dietary deficiencies

It’s worth googling nail problems and looking at the images. There’s lots of different types of problems, many are mentioned on the nhs website.

As Nackapan says, maybe get them looked at as they could indicate other deficiencies or problems.

I’m impressed you’ve got half moons though. Mine disappeared with my B12d and only returned on my thumbs despite adequate treatment by si.

Yes, disappearing moons -mine did that too and only have thumb-moons now. I think this is quite common with B12 deficiency. Luckily not painful.

Also get vertical ridges and lines and cobbled nails when low. I used to then get vertical splits - thin black lines (dried blood) that had to grow out. Nails became thin and brittle, but no worse than that.

I did Google images of nails and B12 deficiency : made me feel quite lucky, as some people get nails that keep delaminating.

Sometimes useful to have a visible symptom - but I can only remember one consultant or doctor ever looking at my nails: a haematologist.

I had a lot of problems with my nails. Before injecting every other day my toes were very likely to get fungal infections and my nails became very hard with longitudinal ridging. This, and many, many more symptoms have greatly improved.

Thank-you all. I do have a number of other symptoms detailed in this thread:

healthunlocked.com/pasoc/po...

But had wondered if anyone else had similar nail colours. I do have vertical ridges on the little finger nails.

I have had one non phone gp app but she didn't pay much attention to my nails. I've had a number of blood tests inc a negative ANA screen and a ecg and doppler test and today gp said nxt step was referral to a neurologist so I am doing that private as desperate for answers so fingers crossed will know soon 🙏
