So I have PA and posted it before. Taking 500mcg methycobalamin every alternate day or 3 to 4 days once from 2 years almost. Hydroxocobalamin and cynacobalamin doesn’t work for me . So recently I read an article about MTHFR and started taking folate form and since then I am feeling little better and I took 1 injection in 15 days and I feel like I don’t need every alternate Day injections . But I am worried if it causes silent damage To nerves as I had severe problems in beginning of I prolong the gap for injections. Do I have some other problem now with folate or methyl functionality apart from pa?. Also do I need to take regular injections like befor?

This is what one of the biggest genetic testing companies say about MTHFR.

Based on the existing data, scientists at 23andMe have concluded that people should not interpret their genotypes at the common MTHFR variants as having an effect on their health.

In order for a connection between a genetic variant and a health condition to be considered real and clinically meaningful, well-run scientific studies need to show convincing and consistent evidence for that association. As statements from multiple scientific and medical organizations indicate, that is currently not the case for the common MTHFR variants.

There is no way that a MTHFR mutation (and over 99% of the population has at least one) could make any difference in the type of B12 needed. b12science.com/B12Science/D...

People with one particular MTHFR mutation (homozygous for C677T) may find supplementing with 400 mcg of methylfolate beneficial.

Thulasi, I am a bit unclear what you are asking about - taking methylB12 or methylfolate.

There is a very small risk of high dose folate accelerating neurological problems if given to patients who are B12 deficient but if you are being treated then folate isn't an issue. It's just that treatment with B12 should start before treatment with high dose folate if both deficiencies are present.

If you aren't folate deficiency then be careful not to take too much.

Hi Gambit62 , I am taking 500 mcg methycobalamin injections for PA but very frequently from 2 years. I don’t know why other forms doesn’t work for me . So I read an article about MTHFR and started taking methylfolate initially 1000mcg every alternate day from last 2 weeks. Drastically my req for b12 reduced and took only 1 b12 injection in this 15 days. I now bought 200 mcg folate Tablets not to overdose and I will take only when required. And b12 I know that I have to take it for life so I will take it when I needed it. My question was I am the special case as @fbirder replied above that will get benefitted with folate and is it any other disease like PA that I have to be concerned about

Gambit62 seems like fbirder gave answer for MTHFR impact . I will assume that it doesn’t impact health and move on and take b12 and folate when needed and in limits. 2 years back I was almost dying , struggling and doctors saying I am absolutely fine and gave anti depression medicine until I found out Myself. I think the stress at that time would have added to the suffering. So I feel I am getting better day by day And just move on. Thanks for the insights both.
