I have regular B12. I have what I think is a candida overgrowth so I took flucanazole to clear it along with diatomaceous earth. Now all my muscles are weak, I feel tired and my speech is really slurred. This has happened before. Could it be low potassium. Really scared and don’t know what to do.

Slurred speech
Some medications such as antibiotics and antifungals can strip the body of nutrients, particularly vitamins. Because they all so closely interact and are all vital this can easily cause deficiency problems.
Also sometimes the bugs, as well as doing harm to the body when they are living on it, release toxins when they die off which also cause problems and can deplete things like B12 which are used by the body to remove toxins.
If you are sure the slurred speach is not due to anything else like a stroke, then there is quite a good chance it is due to a vitamin and mineral deficiency and imbalance.
Fluconazole is partly metabolised in the liver and so could have an impact on B12 stores. One of rare side effects is hypokalaemia (low potassium) so that is possible too.
If you are confident that you are OK then you could try more B12 and a broad spectrum multi vitamin and mineral plus high potassium foods.
If not call a Dr.
You should report your symptoms as a drug side effect via the Yellow Card scheme.
I hope you feel better soon.
I think that probiotic food ( organic raw sauerkraut ,kimchi , kombucha drinks , real yoghurt ) would help your candida overgrowth . In case you don’t like those foods , try a probiotic preparation like Symprove( unfortunately expensive , but excellent ) There are also capsules e.g. Bio-kult . If you have P.A. , you will have low / no stomach acid (Hypochlorhydria/ Achlorhydria) which really upsets the stomach flora / bacteria and can cause various problems , candida being one of them ..We don’t realise how important our gut bacteria is . Best wishes .
Thank you. I just don’t get why I have such a problem with candida in the first place though
Hi Hayley, as others have said, get checked out medically, but my personal experience was that I used to be PLAGUED with candida infections.
Realise now this coincided with the years before I realised I probably had B12 deficiency.
In the last couple of years since my deficiency has been treated adequately, I have not had one incidence of candida !
Hope you feel better soon ! x
I do t know if this will heal your speech, but probiotics will definitely help with candida . I get ( from Amazon) “NOW 8 Billion Acidophilus & Bifidus.”Healthy intestinal flora Not expensive an an excellent probiotic. Also a pharmacist told me to eat Greek yoghurt it’s very good for the “gut”
If nothing else, call NHS 111.
Anything we say here is just guessing, however well intentioned and even right!
Hayley as a retired nurse I feel you should see a doctor and get these symptoms checked out
