B12 Advice please.

Hi All

I am still looking for an answer for aching muscles, which I've had for the last 3+ years now, so I've come on this forum.

90% of the aches are in the vastus medialis, as I am a keen cyclist.

I am also hypothyroid and on NDT.

I am also asthmatic, on seretide.

My last 4 Medichecks Active B12 results are:

Jan. 20. 160 (37.5 - 187.5)

Sept 19. 215 - same ranges

July. 19. 175. - same ranges

Feb. 19. 195. - same ranges

All the results above were based on a daily dose of 12.5 ug B12.

Not sure why I settled for this figure, many years ago now.

This week I 'read' that high or over range Active B12 may result in aching muscles, so I've come on here to ask for your advice, whether this is credible or not.

4 days ago, I started taking just 2.5 ug daily (the recommended dose) and will see if that helps with the aches.

Plus, is it the case that the liver stores excess B12 for very many years?

And I thought that B12, like the other B Vitamins was water soluble?

Thank you, any advice gratefully received!

Have you been checked for magnesium levels. Vitamin d levels.

Eat enough potassium rich food.

Not heard of high b12 levels causing aches I will have to have a read.

If on injections levels are always high.

Yes if you havent PA or an absorbtion problem which it appears tiu donr your liver does store B12 .

How many years worth unsure.

I know in my case it did take about 3 years of unexplained symptoms which I now think were stores being used that my body was unable to replenish.

Happy cycling.

I used to love the freedom of being on a bike.

Have you had a test for HLA B27? Your issue may not be B12 ....

I've never heard of high B12 (and yours is very high) causing muscle aches. If you suspect it might be the cause stop taking the supplements, but you may have to wait six months for your levels to stabilise.

Because, yes, the liver does store about 4 year's worth of B12. Yes, it is water soluble. But the body has evolved mechanisms to keep hold of all the B12 it can get.
